The Divisional Vice President and Business Unit Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and meeting the goals of the business’ annual strategic plan and yearly budget with an emphasis on AMETEK’s four-pronged growth strategy promoting continuous improvement, new product development, global and market expansion, and mergers and acquisitions. This role will have full accountability for the business unit’s P&L including all commercial and operational performance objectives. S/he will lead a team of 7-10 direct reports (total BU headcount is 450+) to drive results and meet financial and market targets. The ideal candidate will be an inspirational, hands-on and transformative change agent with a high level of learning agility who has a passion for the aerospace and defense industry. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful DVP and Business Unit Manager will be responsible for the following Key Outcomes: Full P&L ownership, including full accountability for meeting or exceeding P&L targets by driving direct staff and business unit employees to meet expected targets. Improvement in profit margins through aggressive cost control, profitable sales growth, geographic expansion, price increases, and working capital improvement projects. Direct management of all functional business unit leaders, including operations, sales, finance, supply chain management, engineering, and human resources. Ownership of the development and delivery of key corporate initiatives, including but not limited to the annual budget, regional operations review, and strategic plan. Provide authentic leadership and direction to business unit staff, focusing on leadership development, succession planning and future state planning. Develop and apply a strong global sales strategy, to include market expansion and key relationship management. The DVP/Business Unit Manager will be responsible for negotiating complex long-term agreements and driving distribution partners. Utilize current product set as well as engineering R&D plans to drive growth into existing and new markets. Collaborate with sales and engineering leadership to develop a strong product roadmap. Drive strategic product management, planning and development cycles. Responsible for helping to identify and participate in due diligence activities for M&A targets. The DVP/Business Unit Manager must be hands-on, visible, approachable and able to inspire employees to operate efficiently as one global team. Utilize outstanding communication skills to set the direction and the tone for the business culture. Thrive in a decentralized model and act as the bridge to the corporate office. Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement activities. Identify, articulate, and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for self and team. Ability to think and act strategically while setting high expectations for self and subordinate staff. Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or other technical related discipline is required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree is preferred. Proven record of success as a “hands on” operations management leader with at least 10 years’ experience in similar role with a history of progressively responsible career progression. Qualifications: 10+ years’ aerospace and defense industry experience in a senior leadership role. 7+ years’ experience leading a full or partial P&L of at least $200M in a publicly-traded global manufacturing organization. 7+ years’ leading and executing business strategic plans. 7+ years’ direct management experience, including driving succession planning and formal leadership development plans. Demonstrated strategic planning skills, including competitive analysis and the development of a robust product marketing plan / engineering roadmap. Must possess a strong financial acumen and ability to roll up his/her sleeves to dig into the details while simultaneously and systematically developing an executive summary and presentation. Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. Highly collaborative and dynamic individual who holds self and others accountable for meeting or exceeding expectations and financial targets. Solid track record of identifying and developing engineering product roadmap. Must be willing to travel up to 50%, including international travel. Prior experience with M&A activity preferred. Due to contracts with the United States Government, candidate must be either a US Citizen or Greencard holder. Direct Reports 7-10 Typical Working Conditions: The work environment is well-lit, heated and is in an air-conditioned indoor office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. May have some exposure to heat or cold in site manufacturing areas. The use of safety equipment may be required. Essential Physical Tasks: Regularly required to sit or stand, walk, bend and reach with hands and arms. Regular use of hands/fingers for handling, holding, grasping, and typing on a computer keyboard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
