Job Purpose:
A person with a manufacturing/industrial engineering background who will focus on the development of manufacturing processes to drive efficiencies in manufacturing. Focus on continuous improvement of existing and new manufacturing processes. Focused on improving manufacturing capacity and streamlining the manufacturing assembly process value stream.
Manufacturing Engineers’ primary duties are to design and develop production systems and improve the tools and systems within the manufacturing process. Manufacturing engineers must advise on the best technologies and processes to manufacture a particular product and design the factory where it will be developed. Manufacturing process development includes the definition, creation, execution of process validation and on-going verification plans. The person will be actively involved in inspections throughout the supply chain, as well as functional testing. The person will interface and build cooperative working relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal employees, therefore excellent written and verbal skills are required.
Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Be responsible for driving the development and documentation of manufacturing processes.
- Responsible to support Manufacturing in evaluating Manufacturing Capacity, cycle times, create flow and free up space in production floor to allow for future growth.
- Responsible to support Manufacturing in assessment of Quality Issues, investigation and corrective actions.
- Focus on continuous improvement for Manufacturing Assembly processes and activities related to Design Transfer of New Product/Process Transfers into the site. Focused on design for manufacturability and integration to existing Manufacturing Process at Receiving site. Collaborates closely with all transferring and receiving Manufacturing Sites across all departments (Quality, Design Engineering, etc.)
- Participates in Vertical Integration Opportunities to assess in “Make vs. Buy” decisions.
- Collaborates with Manufacturing, Materials Mgmt., and Finance in BOM and Costing Analysis including Material Usage and Labor Standards.
- Drive Continuous Improvement using Lean and Six Sigma Tools and Methodologies.
- Drives favorability in Equipment Uptime (OEE) and Labor Uptime (OLE) by working with Maintenance in Spare Parts, Total Production Maintenance (TPM) to eliminate downtime associated with equipment and labor.
- Specializes in several areas of knowledge regarding production / manufacturing processes: process design, line layout, product flow from component receipt to FGA ship, ergonomics, capacity, simulation tools, investment, and cost analysis
- Strongly contributes to / leads continuous improvement actions; In particular, they must identify possible improvements in product design and the assembly line processes, following the (3) cost factors; Cost Avoidance, Cost Savings, Cost Opportunity.
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing manufacturing processes and sources new systems for production
- Be up to date on new manufacturing processes and technologies to make decisions when it comes to improving optimizations across product lines.
- Participates actively to Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and is responsible for ensuring that process robustness continuously replies to the needs of quality
- Contributes to the development of new products (manufacturability, feasibility) and works together with Design and Sustaining Engineering in Design Transfer to the Manufacturing Sites
- Manages Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) by updating material, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and routings when modifications are required by Engineering
- Advise on the best technologies and processes to manufacture a particular product and design the factory where it will be developed.
- Responsible for establishing metrics to measure productivity and efficiency in Manufacturing such as OEE, OLE, Yield, Cycle Time, Capacity.
- Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research/testing; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; working with suppliers and internal machine shops and soliciting observations from operators.
- Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished- product and process capabilities, establishing standards, and validating and/or verifying manufacturing processes.
- Developing, executing and improving manufacturing plans that support NPI/NPD activities and sustaining current production.
- Be responsible for the re-review of product quality, including but not limited to, manufacturing processes based on our risk management process (production and post-production feedback).
- Investigate both production and post-production feedback issues.
- Develop positive relationships and work closely with functional managers to create, manage, and implement on-going verification plans.
- Act as consultant to the Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering organizations to improve Quality and Manufacturing processes including changes to processes and products, including engineering and supplier changes and product transfers.
- Provide Engineering expertise requiring advanced/specialized skills and a broad range of quality engineering expertise.
- Understand and drive Lean manufacturing internally and with suppliers.
Qualifications:
- An Engineering degree from an accredited four-year university is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working as a Manufacturing Lead/Supervisor preferred
- 3yrs experience in automation preferred
- Black Belt preferred
- Certified Green Belt
Eligibility Requirements:
- Willingness and ability to travel as required, including international travel.

- Prior experience writing technical specifications is preferred
- Background in CAD/CAM software (ProE, Surfcam)
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, components and assemblies Background in an ISO 13485 work environment, including experience with risk management and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive actions).
