Helmer Scientific designs, integrates, manufactures, markets, and distributes specialized medical and laboratory equipment to clinical and life science customers in over 125 countries, as well as provide after-market service and support.This Hybrid Design/Mechanical Engineer & Manufacturing Engineer develops, sustains, and improves manufacturing processes and systems focused on exceeding quality, cost, and schedule requirements throughout production. In this role, you will coordinate, organize, and supervise production process methods and engineering activities that facilitate production including sustaining engineering and continuous improvement activities. Learn more about our benefits here!Where is the work:This position is onsite in Noblesville, IN.This role has been designated by the company as Safety Sensitive Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Hybrid Design/Mechanical Engineer & Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team. This unique position combines the creative and technical aspects of design and mechanical engineering with the practical and process-oriented functions of manufacturing engineering. The ideal candidate will be adept at designing innovative design solutions while also optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness within an FDA regulated environment.Key Responsibilities (others may be added):Design and Mechanical Engineering:Develop and design product systems and components, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software.Conduct simulations and analyses to validate designs and optimize performance.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, product management, and quality assurance, to bring new products from concept to production.Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in design processes.Develop FMEA and DVP (design verification plan), execute test plans, and analyze and summarize test resultsConduct design reviews, provide status updates to stakeholders, and present projects to leadership for approvals as part of our phase gate processManufacturing Engineering:Support the transition of new designs from prototype to full-scale production.Develop and implement manufacturing processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.Identify and resolve manufacturing issues, ensuring products are produced efficiently and to high-quality standards.Conduct time studies and workflow analyses to optimize production processes and reduce waste.Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues on the manufacturing floor.Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects.Assumes responsibility for Capital planning, CER creations and Approvals, Capital Project Timing and Implementation, Capital Spending and Budgeting Help identify and execute product and labor VA/VE opportunities Develop and implement manufacturing flows, workstation layouts and organization, and station controls, which optimize value added operations, operating costs, and product / process quality. Develop and improves manufacturing standards including machine capability, process maps, set-ups, quality controls, tooling and fixture records, routings, machine times, and cycle timesQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.3+ years of experience in design and mechanical engineering, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes.Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools-AutoDesk products preferredExperience with manufacturing process development, optimization, and troubleshooting.Familiarity with DFM/A methodology and practical application desired.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Familiarity with problem solving processes, tools and techniques (8D, 6 sigma / DMAIC, root cause analysis tools- DFMEA, 5-why, fishbone etc.)Strong project planning / management and organizational skills.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and refrigeration systems and components is preferred but not required.Knowledge of methods, accepted practices, considerations and regulatory requirements associated with safety and protection of workers, environment and site.Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000 Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages.
