The Manufacturing Engineer will assist with improving manufacturing flow and efficiency, system design for manufacture, Bill of Materials (BOM) management, build sequencing and fixturing, design, and solving production issues. As part of the Engineering department, the Manufacturing Engineer will work as an interface to improve production efficiency, bring new designs to the shop floor, and assist with updating current designs for manufacturability, reliability, and due to obsolescence. The Manufacturing Engineer will also redline prints and update CAD models accordingly and maintain configuration management.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer with a relevant degree, or 6 years’ equivalent experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Prefer experience in aluminum utility or boat manufacturing or maintenance, or equivalent work experience.
  • Prefer experience in Vessel and/or Vehicle testing and trials.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited college or university; work experience may provide equivalence.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Development of Condition Found Reports (CFRs) for vessels in production. CFRs are discrete line-item contracts that identify discrepancies with the boat outside of the base work required. Use of a provided format and Birdon developed methodology is required.
  • Provide technical support and problem solving to all vessel production operations.
  • Support in the development and management of the Manufacturing Bill of Materials for vessel production parts.
  • Identification for and development of tooling and fixtures to improve vessel production.
  • Support the development and validation of new vessel designs and features.
  • Coordinate with other members of the program team and larger Birdon organization around program execution, technical and production matters.
  • Support the development and execution of Engineering Change Orders.
  • Support the management of vessel and production configurations.

Required Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, MS Project, Visio, Adobe
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and able to perform database data entry.

  • Tools and Test Equipment: Use common hand tools and power tools and become proficient in the use of test equipment such as multimeters, volt meters, antenna analyzers, flowmeters, load cells, and strain gauges.

Working Conditions

  • Position requires use of computer, telephones and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Position requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment, in and around boats from the beginning of production through the sea trails. This includes mobility to work in and around incomplete aluminum hull structures.
  • Ability to lift packages, equipment, etc. up to 50 lbs.
