TransDigm is a decentralized organization with 50 independent operating units, which drive value through autonomous data-driven market strategy, innovation and execution.Job SummaryThe Manager of Manufacturing Engineering & EHS is responsible for guiding the staff and activities of the Manufacturing Engineering team and ensuring TA Aerospace is operating to meet and exceed all regulatory safety requirements. This Position has overall responsibility to ensure manufacturing processes, tools and equipment are in place to support TA Aerospace operational objectives and Productivity initiatives. Manages the department, including staffing, budget and planning. Directs production process development to optimize manufacturing efficiency, quality and safety. Establishes policies and standards within the department and provides technical advice in support of department and company objectives. Key member of the TA management Leadership team.Value Drivers Productivity: Responsible to ensure all Productivity commitments are met with appropriate margin to ensure continued cost improvement within the business Price: Drive process improvement for both direct and indirect costs to improve opportunity for value pricing New Business: Provide estimated costs, build capacity, and entry into production plan to the Sales & Engineering team to determine go/no-go on new business opportunitiesPrimary Responsibilities Mentor, guide and supervise the manufacturing engineers and lead the business through all EHS activities Oversee, plan and prioritize department activities and resources Oversee and lead productivity projects and processes Interview, hire, and develop manufacturing engineers and safety team members Develop, monitor and manage department budget, CER'S and related project expenses. Lead the team to develop manufacturing processes. Identify technical issues of future importance and develop plans to address them. Identify machine requirements and capital requirements that will improve productivity Oversee and assist team members performing the following duties: Developing production processes and documentation. Developing time standards. Establishing estimated cost of manufacturing including material, labor and tooling. Creating/modifying routing operation files and BOMs. Approving engineering drawings for manufacturability. Creating Workmanship Standards and Acceptance Criteria. Creating Work Instructions as needed to support process steps. Head of the safety committeeSecondary Duties Provide tooling lead-times to Customer Service for quoting purposes, primarily mold tooling. Identify product redesign opportunities to reduce rework and scrap. Identify opportunities for process standardization and automation Champion Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream Mapping, and Process Improvement in a manufacturing environment.Qualifications Self-motivated team leader with ability to lead and sustain improvement activities. Effective employee relations experience (experience in a union environment preferred) Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Leadership skills - effective in motivating and directing a team for positive results Advanced skill level of ERP, automated scheduling systems and software programs including Microsoft Office Knowledge of/experience with manufacturing support functions such as Quality, and Facilities Business acumen and customer interaction experience Philosophic knowledge of and direct participation in Continuous Improvement Organizational, communication, planning and presentation skills. Education/Previous Experience Minimum of 5-7 years management experience in manufacturing engineering, aerospace preferred. BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering; MBA preferred. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously. Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CAD software (CATIA) Experience in a union environment preferred.
