In addition to developing manufacturing process and assembly strategies, Manufacturing Engineers work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. You will work closely with Design Engineering, Product Integration, Factory Design, Quality and Production to take vehicle design changes and new vehicle designs from initial concept through prototype development and into full production. This role seeks a candidate with experience in designing, installing, and commissioning heavy duty conveyance systems. Responsibilities Interface with Tesla cross-functional teams (design engineering, GA process ME, operations, quality engineering, and supply chain) to review the manufacturing feasibility of product designs in General Assembly to deliver on best-in-class cost, function, and quality metricsProvide detailed equipment recommendation for part or all line conveyances, on ground/overhead structures, product transfers, and overall flow for subassembly and/or main assembly lines that is the best for cost, maintenance, product assembly, design for manufacturing (DFM), and overall total cost of ownership (TCO)Develop process documentation and project planning documents like Request for Quotes (RFQs), project timeline charts, assembly sequence flows, PFMEAs, Quality Control Plans, technical standards, and CAPEX/OPEX analysesSupport the development and introduction of processes and equipment associated with early prototype builds and highlight key process and equipment improvement opportunities for the final production linesWork closely with Tesla's partner vendors to develop world-class production lines with unprecedented simplicity, density, speed, and automationWork closely with Tesla's factory design, facilities, and EHS teams to ensure production line layouts and equipment are optimized for the most efficient factory designSupport the design, installation, commissioning, and ramp of high-volume production lines, ensuring close collaboration with Tesla's partner vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver the line in the shortest possible time and lowest possible costInitiate and drive strategies to rapidly ramp the quality and rate of newly launched production lines to full capacity with a focus on maintaining the highest of safety standards throughout the ramp durationBuild on the success of existing line layouts, processes, and tooling to further improve material flow, waste reduction, safety, and ergonomics by utilizing lean manufacturing best practices and structured problem-solving methodologiesProvide leadership to cross-functional teams on manufacturing engineering topics and strive to improve the overall efficiency of the manufacturing engineering team through mentoring and knowledge sharing Requirements B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering; or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability5+ years of related experience developing and launching complex assembly processes.
