Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing "The machine that builds the machine". We work with the cross-functional teams (design, quality, production, sustaining, and supply chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce battery modules for Tesla's cutting-edge power electronics.
Responsibilities
- Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds
- Determine and procure equipment that is necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the product
- Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high-volume production
- Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
- Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
- Develop new manufacturing processes
- Determine layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency
- Perform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulation
- Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements
- Create detailed manufacturing instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment
- Experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
- Experience using 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)
- Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems, robotic systems (Fanuc preferred)
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
- Experience providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Automation (DFA)
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

- Manufacturing Engineer - $88,400 - $132,600/annual salary
- Sr Manufacturing Engineer - $98,600 - $147,900/annual salary
- Staff Manufacturing Engineer - $112,200 - $168,300/annual salary
- Sr Staff Manufacturing Engineer - $136,000 - $204,000/annual salary

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
