Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing "The machine that builds the machine". We work with the cross-functional teams (design, quality, production, sustaining, and supply chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce Tesla's cutting-edge power electronics.Responsibilities Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds Determine and procure equipment that is necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the product Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high-volume production Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor Develop new manufacturing processes Determine layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency Perform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulation Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements Create detailed manufacturing instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment Requirements Experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systemsExperience using 2D cad tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems, robotic systems (Fanuc preferred)Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience Compensation and Benefits BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) LGBTQ+ care concierge services 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation$80,000 - $240,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
