Carolina Meadows is looking for the right candidate to join our team as the Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting. The ideal candidate will be a CPA with public accounting/audit experience, preferably in a senior living or healthcare environment. Experience with senior living accounting software (MatrixCare or similar) is also highly desired. CPA license and 4-5 years of relevant experience required.
The essential functions of the position will be to understand the full financial operations of Carolina Meadows and the four related legal entities. Initially this position will not have direct reports but may add responsibility for up to four direct reports as this position becomes familiar with the Carolina Meadows campus. This position is also planned to share oversight for the department with the Director.
This position is primarily responsible for accounting functions and internal accounting control for Carolina Meadows Inc, Carolina Meadows Foundation, Inc, Carolina Meadows Management and Development, Inc (currently inactive), and Carolina Meadows Home Care, Inc. as delegated by the Director of Finance and the CFO. Key focus will include the following areas, as well as other functions and projects as assigned:
- Provides leadership, analysis, reporting, and general business support for regular financial processes.
- Works collaboratively with internal departmental customers (including Leadership as well as the Executive Team) to properly analyze and interpret financial results
- Fixed Asset accounting and reporting
- Physician Practice accounting (revenue and accounts receivable) - This does not include billing nor collections.
- Financial statement, general ledger & budget compilation, preparation, analysis, and reporting
- Sharing the cross training, backup, and process improvement responsibilities with the Director for:
- Accounts Payable,
- Billing/Accounts Receivable & census,
- General Ledger & financial reporting, and
- Payroll.
- Fixed Assets: Compiles, analyzes and records financial records for capital projects and fixed assets accounting and supporting documentation, including assigning project numbers
- Physician Practice accounting: Prepares the accounting functions for the on-site Medical Practice, which includes reconciling revenue, deposits, and accounts receivable.
- Reconciliations: Reconciles bank accounts, investment accounts and other balance sheet accounts and prepares related journal entries required monthly for financial statement processing.
- Functional cross training: Cross trains with and provides process improvement functions and for Accounts Payable, Billing/Accounts Receivable (including census and incoming resident unit closings), and Payroll functions
- Financial Closings: Assists the Director with financial closing procedures for month, quarter and annual closings
- Financial Audit: Assists the CFO and the Director with annual audit & tax return (990) support
- Financial support and reporting: Provides analysis, reporting, and general business support for regular financial processes by collaborating with internal customers (including Leadership) to properly analyze and interpret financial results
- Resident Financials: Maintains FINAID (financial assessment tool for residents) and FORCAST (financial tool to calculate entrance fee amortization) software database
- Assists the CFO and Director with preparing financial screening for prospective residents and subsequent updates
- Assist the CFO and Director with processing resident entrance fee refunds including calculations based on contract and amendments
- Maintains financial documentation for resident files
- Assists the CFO and Director with Financial Assistance and Equity Advance Agreements for residents requesting benevolence
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting.
CPA, preferably with public accounting (audit) experience.
A minimum of four (4) years of related accounting experience, through audit and/or industry experience.
Excellent data entry and computer skills are required, including proficiency in Excel.
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience with senior living software systems, preferably MatrixCare.
Experience with senior living and/or non-profit accounting.
