Job Description
This is a developmental role with three levels depending on experience.
The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) acts in a product ownership, systems analyst and project
management role, providing the key interface between management and end users on one side, and
BC's internal IT development partners and vendors on the other.
Operates within a development and maintenance process which follows Scaled Agile (scrum practices).
Works with a variety of Student Information Systems involving Admission, Enrollment, Student
Accounts, Financial Aid and Degree Audits etc.
Essential Functions
Identify and develop system solution requirements by interviewing business users (Student Services,
Provost Office, faculty, school personnel, students etc.)
Analyze and assess business operations and user needs, identifying and researching best practices and
determining gaps between system functionality and user requirements
Collaborate with users on proposed technical solution (s). Obtain stakeholder approval.
Translate user issues and needs into functional requirements. Create and document detailed
specifications, and process flow diagrams from which programs can be written.
Configure the system as needed.
Serve as a liaison with ITS and functional teams on system solutions and user issues
.
Recommend business process redesign, as needed, based on analysis of user requirements.
Identify and develop workflow solution requirements by interviewing business users (Student Services, Admissions,
Provost office, faculty, school personnel, students, etc), analyzing business operations and user needs,
and developing workflow diagrams.
Provide tier 1 and tier 2 production support
Support production release activities as needed
Test and implement production changes and enhancements using quality assurance processes.
Associate BSA: $63,800 - $79,750
BSA: $74,000-$92,500
Senior BSA: $83,650-104,600
Requirements
Bachelors Degree Required
Experience within a Student Service / Higher Education environment preferred
Associate BSA: 2 to 3 years of related business systems analysis experience.
BSA: 3 to 5 years of related business systems analysis experience
Senior BSA: Minimum of 5 to 7 years of related business systems analysis and/or project management
experience
Detailed working knowledge of enrollment, financial aid, admissions, student account and/or degree
audit processes, best practices and process improvements.
Ability to facilitate user engagement sessions to gather user needs/requirements and determine
solution/approach and document results with functional team. Balancing risk, complexity, effort and
value.
Expertise in business process analysis and redesign. Ability to provide guidance about the business
implications of systems changes.
Effective communications skills to ensure that end users, technical staff and vendors are up-to-date on
system developments and decisions.
Proficient in MS Office applications, MS Project and MS Visio or equivalent.
Ability to work independently to identify risks, gaps and resolve issues in order to keep project activities on track.
