The Asian American Center of Frederick is on a mission to equip and empower all immigrants to become independent and self-sufficient contributors to their communities and American society. To achieve our mission, we are launching a multi-year initiative to provide our clients with pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and job training opportunities. 

We are currently recruiting for a part-time Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will lead the financial strategy and management of AACF to ensure responsible stewardship of resources, compliance with financial regulations, and alignment of the financial planning with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. The CFO will oversee financial reporting, implement financial controls, manage the annual budget, oversee restricted and unrestricted funds, and ensure efficient grant management practices.

What You’ll Do in this Role:

  • Financial Strategy and Budget Management
    • Develop and oversee AACF’s annual budget to ensure it aligns with the organization’s strategic goals.
    • Analyze financial performance and project future revenue and expenses to support strategic decision-making.
    • Report to the Board of Directors on financial performance, variances, and other critical financial data.

  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare and present timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Ensure financial data is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible for audit and reporting purposes.
    • Collaborate with other departments to understand and communicate the impact of financial information.

  • Financial Controls and Compliance
    • Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including all nonprofit reporting requirements.
    • Monitor payroll to ensure it's accurate, up-to-date, and paid on time. Ensure AACF complies with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Conduct regular reviews of financial processes and recommend improvements as needed.

  • Audit and Financial Compliance
    • Lead the annual audit process, including working with the Board of Directors on the selection of auditors and preparing necessary documentation.
    • Respond to auditor findings and recommendations to improve AACF’s financial operations.
    • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and ensure all financial documentation is audit-ready.

  • Funds Management
    • Oversee the allocation and tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds to meet programmatic and operational needs.
    • Ensure all restricted funds are used in accordance with donor intent and regulatory guidelines.

  • Grant Management and Reporting
    • Oversee grant management processes, including budgeting, tracking, and financial reporting to funders.
    • Experience with federal grant processes and fiscal operations 
    • Ensure grant funds are spent appropriately and that AACF meets all reporting requirements.
    • Collaborate with program staff to develop budgets for new grant proposals and monitor existing grants.

  • Team Management
    • Train and manage staff in the finance/payroll team.
    • Create any needed new job descriptions and hire for new roles.
    • Recommend necessary outside training/learning & development opportunities for staff.
    • Carry out performance evaluations and recommend promotions, staffing changes as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; 
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience managing a nonprofit budget, including restricted and unrestricted funds, ideally over $10 million annually.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial management, including GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing audits, financial controls, and grant financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with an ability to present complex financial information clearly.

Job Type:

  • $40-$50/hour based on education and experience
