As a Certified Medical Assistant, you're on the front line of care. You've developed that sixth sense of anticipating and answering the needs of your patients. You're a seasoned healthcare clinical assistant responsible for preparing patients for the office visit or procedure documenting the appropriate information to assist the physician and/or nurse in the care of the patients.

Applying your knowledge of medication administration and dosing, with your understanding of anatomy, your personal prescription for patient care includes a healthy dose of kindness, respect and empathy with everything you do.

Your Everyday

Prepare patients for visits by collecting vital signs, pain rating, allergies, reason for visit, and assess each patient for Abuse, Fall Risk, Functional Assessment, Advance Directives prior to being seen by the physician and record in patient's medical record. Demonstrate and promote compliance with all state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (i.e., patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, etc.) and adhere to policies and procedures. Obtain patient tests and communicate information to physicians regarding labs/test results, medications; obtain medical records from outside facilities when needed or requested by medical provider. Administer treatments and prescribed medications under the direction of the physician or registered nurse. Communicate with pharmacies and patients regarding patient medication refills and new prescriptions. Sort and distribute correspondence, test results, and scans in patient medical record after physician review and sign off. Provide privacy and instruction to patient pre and post procedure, prepare patients and room for procedures performed in office; clean and organize exam room after visit. Obtain specimen, complete appropriate paperwork, and deliver specimen to designated location. Apply supportive devices or bandages as ordered by physician and documents appropriate information in patient's record. Stock treatment rooms and keep supplies/linens organized, monitor supplies, linens, equipment and surgical instruments inventory. Package, label and send surgical instruments to central sterilization as needed and ensure used instruments are cleaned daily. Inspect equipment to ensure it is operating properly and reports equipment needing repairs promptly to Nurse or clinic/office Manager. Check quality assurance and refrigerator logs to aid in maintaining quality patient care.

The Must-Haves

Minimum:

High School diploma, GED or equivalent or 2 years of appropriate work experience.

OB/GYN experience preferred.

Certified Medical Assistant -American Association of Medical Assistants or National Healthcareer Association - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.

Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
