Ergon Inc. in Flowood, MS currently has an opening for a Procurement Specialist I in the Corporate Procurement Services Department.
Ergon, Inc. is a privately held company headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi. Ergon owns and operates two petroleum refineries located in Mississippi and West Virginia, producing gasoline, low-sulfur diesel, lubricant and process base oils, asphalts and other specialty products. Ergon also produces, markets, and/or distributes paving asphalt, asphalt emulsions, specialty coatings, sealants, and other road construction and maintenance products from over thirty owned or leased asphalt and emulsions plants across the United States.
The Procurement Specialist I role involves procuring quality goods and services that meet company needs at competitive prices, ensuring timely delivery, accurate invoicing, and compliance with internal risk requirements. Responsibilities include reviewing requisitions in the SAP ERP system, sourcing and selecting vendors, and generating purchase orders. The position also supports proposal efforts, works cross-functionally with various departments, manages vendor follow-up, resolves invoice disputes, and seeks opportunities for cost savings. Additionally, the role includes assisting with spend data analysis and adhering to Ergon's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy. This role offers opportunities for professional growth and expanded responsibilities. As the Procurement Specialist gains experience and demonstrates strong performance, there will be opportunities to take on more senior responsibilities. This could include leading cross-functional initiatives, managing larger or more complex vendor relationships, and taking on strategic procurement projects that directly impact company-wide processes.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
:
Bachelor's degree in a business-related field is required. A minimum of three to five years active work experience in procurement or supply chain management related services Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required. KEY ROLE DUTIES

Knowledge of a variety of office, technical, and maintenance supplies and materials, the best sources, and appropriate prices for the procurement of such goods Receives, examines and processes requisitions; prepares documents related to the purchase of supplies, materials and equipment; locates source of supply, and places orders with appropriate vendor(s) Familiarity with a variety of the purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures preferably in a refinery or petrochemical environment; familiarity with concepts of Inventory Management and MRP (Materials Requirement Planning) in a manufacturing environment; and familiarity with concepts of Production Planning in a manufacturing environment. Experience using SAP considered a plus Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Ability to work cross functional and maintain an effective working relationship with other, including Risk, Accounting, Tax and Engineering Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong attention to detail Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain sensitivity of confidential information Limited travel may be involved
