What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Air Delivered Weapons Systems Tester Development Department (2256) and the Ballistic Missile Tester Development Department (2255) have an immediate opening for a passionate and motivated R&D Systems Engineer to join an exciting, dynamic, and highly technical team. The selected candidate will be a member of a team that designs, fabricates, qualifies, and deploys sophisticated system-level nuclear weapon testers for the Stockpile Surveillance Program.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Demonstrate technical leadership by coordinating and leveraging peer mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, computer engineers, surety engineers, and electromechanical technologists to ensure aspects of a project such as the following are being addressed:
Supporting the design, testing, and evaluation of prototype hardware, the integration and troubleshooting of tester systems, and identifying and managing technical risks.
Supporting definition of functional and interface requirements, analyzing system performance against requirements, validating the tester design against customer requirements, and executing high rigor qualification activities.
Leading design reviews and managing action items to resolution.
Updating design definition and documentation.
Looking for improvement opportunities in design, development, and process during all phases of project execution.
Resolving technical and programmatic challenges in a collaborative manner with multiple internal and external agencies.
Assessing, planning, and reporting progress relative to a project plan, ensuring project maintains schedule and budget performance.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel is required for this position.
Salary Range:
$127,900 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant STEM field, plus four (4) years of experience; OR Bachelor's degree in stated field, plus eight (8) years of experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Ability to obtain and maintain Sigma 15 access, which may require a polygraph.
Qualifications We Desire:
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in above-stated field.
Product Realization Team (PRT) or team leadership experience.
Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret clearance).
Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to learn new skills, and the ability to develop solutions based on project needs.
Demonstrated skills developing positive relationships among peers, management, and customers.
Demonstrated effectiveness working in an environment with dynamic conditions, competing priorities, and firm deadlines.
Ability to take broad direction and implement technical activities without detailed mentorship or supervision.
A proven ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal).
Experience with nuclear weapons technologies.
Knowledge of quality principles, including the Nuclear Weapon Product Realization Process including familiarity with Realize Product Procedures (RPPs), and Defense Programs Business Process System (DPBPS) documents.
Experience working within NNSA Nuclear Security Enterprises including SNL Systems and Component organizations, Kansas City National Security Campus, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

We design, develop, and sustain qualified test systems used to evaluate the safety, security, and effectiveness of the nuclear weapon stockpile. These departments provide an opportunity to learn about the U.S. Nuclear Security Enterprise, nuclear weapon design and function, and the role of Sandia National Laboratories in the nation's nuclear deterrence mission.
