A nationwide non-residential real estate and property management group with over a decade of experience is seeking to expand its team by adding a Director of Accounting in the Detroit area. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in property accounting and managing commercial properties, including handling CAM reconciliations.

This hybrid position requires 3 days onsite and 2 days working from home.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Accounting for our Commercial Real Estate division. This is a permanent hybrid position that offers a unique blend of strategic and operational responsibilities. The successful candidate will have a key role in driving the financial health of our organization by overseeing all accounting operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and CAM reconciliations. The Director of Accounting will work closely with our leadership team to formulate financial strategies and ensure their alignment with our business goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of the commercial real estate industry and a proven track record in financial management.

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee all accounting operations for our Commercial Real Estate division, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations. 2. Develop and implement effective financial strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and profitability. 3. Conduct regular CAM reconciliations and manage all aspects of budgeting and forecasting. 4. Provide accurate and timely financial reports to the leadership team, highlighting key trends and potential risks. 5. Collaborate with other department heads to align financial management with business strategies and objectives. 6. Manage the use of the Appfolio platform for accounting and property management tasks. 7. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. 8. Liaise with external auditors and manage the audit process. 9. Stay abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes, and ensure the organization's financial operations are up-to-date and compliant.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A CPA or similar professional certification is highly desirable. 2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role, preferably within the commercial real estate industry. 3. Proficiency in Appfolio or a similar property management software. 4. Strong experience in CAM reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting. 5. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team. 6. Excellent analytical and strategic planning skills. 7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 8. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. 9. Ability to manage multiple priorities, complex situations, and a diverse team of employees. 10. Up-to-date knowledge of current financial and accounting computer applications.
