About Us:
Sonoma Specialty Hospital, as the county’s only Long-Term Acute Care Hospital, is dedicated to caring for patients that require an extended acute care stay due to severe illness or catastrophic injury. We accept patients from the ICU, Step-Down and Telemetry units of partner hospitals and continue their care for as long as 45 days. This care focuses on the challenges of getting patients off of ventilator support, healing severe wounds, aiding their recovery following surgical procedures, and providing rehabilitation to speed their return to daily life. Our Hospital provides ICU, Surgical, and Step-Down care with dialysis, multi-specialty therapies and ongoing planning for the patient’s transition back home or into a lower level of care. Summary:
The clinical educator is responsible for preparing and mentoring current and future generations of clinical and non-clinical staff. Clinical educators play a pivotal role in strengthening the workforce, serving as role models and providing the leadership needed to implement evidence-based practice.
Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to the following):
- Design and implement academic and continuing education programs, hospital orientation, and a selected part of nursing orientation for new nursing department employees.
- Conducts needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools.
- Perform advanced evaluations and provide guidance for testing new procedures.
- Plans, prepares and maintains materials for use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience.
- Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media, formats, platforms and methodologies.
- Prepares short and long-term planning and programs to address identified needs.
- Assess and set goals for educational programs, updating them when needed.
- Serves as an educational consultant to facilities, task forces, committees, and projects relating to policy, procedure and program development.
- Create a culture which supports and encourages continual learning.
- Able to take a patient assignment based on hospital needs.
Supervisory
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, this position may oversee clinical and non-clinical staff during education meetings or programs.
Qualifications
- A minimum two years of experience developing educational programs preferred.
- Three years teaching experience or coordination preferred.
- Five years minimum acute care experience preferred.
- Experience in an Intensive Critical Unit preferred.
Education and/or Experience
- Current RN license for State of California.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Health Services, or equivalent preferred.
- Certified Nurse Educator certification preferred.
- Masters in Nursing preferred
- BLS and ACLS
