JOB DUTIES
- Escort patients to examination/surgery rooms
- Gather history of present illness/concerns
- Do a review of systems with the patient
- Prepare patients for examination and/or surgery
- Take past, family, and social history
- Document all information from visit and input in the patient’s medical record
- Educate patient so they understand the use of medications or home care
- Prepare Mohs maps for the next surgery day
- Check in specimen slides, and put away
- Perform and assist with triage of patient items and phone calls as needed
- Take phone calls and listen to phone messages and return phone messages
- Make pathology calls
- Perform wound checks
- Complete referrals and coordinate with other specialties
- Assist the provider with patient consults
- Completes Pre-operative preparations
- Assist the provider during examination as required
- Assist the surgeon with Mohs procedure by Mohs Layering, Mohs Repair, and suturing
- Enter and complete prescriptions through Allscripts as directed by the provider
- Contact pharmacies as needed
- Assist the surgeon/provider with excisions
- Lay out surgical supplies and set up equipment for surgeries
- Apply post-op dressings after surgeries
- Verify inventory, and if needed place item(s) on order list
- Clean and prepare surgery room after each patient visit
- Prepare instrument packs, gauze packs, and autoclave
- Restock exam, surgical, and treatment rooms and check inventory
- Place orders for any needed supplies and inventory
- Pick up and keep counter tops organized and cleaned
- Empty and wipe down trash receptacles both contaminated and non-contaminated
- Following OSHA guidelines
- Clean sterilizer, by draining and refilling
- Complete temperature checks for the refrigerators and DTM drawer
- Fill syringes
- Wash, fold, and put away laundry
- Pull and file patient charts (as needed)
- Clean and prepare histopathology slides
- Clean and sanitize/ sterilize surgical instruments
- Check and change bio-hazard bags and boxes as needed
- Stock patient rooms, fill LN2, and change out sterilizer water
- Perform duties as assigned by supervisor or management
- Put laundry away, restock bathroom and paper towels
- Assist front desk with answering phone, and scheduling appointments
- Assist patient to bathroom
- Assist patients to their mode of transportation
- Work on any projects
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate
Graduate of an MA program or comparable experience (If not certified, must become certified in 6 months)
Willing to use nursing skills
Willing to learn numerous dermatological procedures
Willing to work independently yet closely with others as a team player
Able to take initiative
Possess strong attention to detail
Able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with patients, providers, and staff
Able to learn and perform procedures and tasks as listed in the job description
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Must be capable of lifting and carrying 20 lbs, and occasionally up to 50 lbs
Must be proficient in using basic medical math skills
Problem-solving and discriminating judgments knowing right from wrong
Have legible handwriting
Dress professionally—scrubs, nursing uniform, and shoes
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, IPAD, printers, copiers, phones, fax machines, calculators, and computer software, digital camera, instrument sterilizer, medical instruments.
Work Environment: The position is in a well-lighted medical office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work.
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a Medical Assistant, such as standing for 90 percent of the day; manual dexterity to operate office machines. This includes a computer and calculator; stooping, and bending to pick up equipment and supplies; and mobility to complete errands as needed. Multiple staff demands and deadlines can trigger stress.

1. Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and systems.
