Position Summary:

The Infection Control Nurse is assigned the responsibility of developing, coordinating and implementing the hospital wide Infection Control Program. Specializes in identifying, controlling and preventing outbreaks of infection in healthcare settings and the community. Activities include the collection and analysis of infection-control data; the planning implementation and evaluation of infection prevention and control; the development and revision of infection control policies and procedures, the investigation of suspected outbreaks of infection and the provision of consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention and control strategies.


Qualifications:

Requires completion of Registered Nurse program, BSN or MSN preferred.  Public Health Nursing Certification, preferred.

 Requires knowledge and understanding of microbiology, statistics, sterilization and disinfection, infectious diseases, antibiotic usage and clinical practice, consultative and teaching skills.

 Requires 3-5 years of recent acute care nursing experience with 1 year Infection Control experience preferred, 1-3 years of clinical experience in a public health setting.  Proven ability to apply necessary skills and techniques in infection control measures.  Demonstrated knowledge of Title 22, CMS, CDC, HFAP, SB 739, OSHA and other applicable state and federal infection control agencies and standards.  Able to collect data, perform statistical calculations and interpret data.  Demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to apply principles of organization.

    

APIC and CDPH Infection Control training, preferred, otherwise must be completed within 12 months of hire.

 

 

Requires Current California Board of Registered Nurse Licensure.  Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required within 12months of hire.

PHN certification, preferred.
