RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Degreed Welding Engineer with experience in GMAW (Mig), GTAW (Tig), Laser and Plasma welding.
  • Experience with Welding of stainless steel.
  • Ability to train welding to employees and setup a weld qualification program for repair welders and production welders.
  • Work in conjunction with the Project Engineer to develop and launch products into production utilizing the APQP process. Perform assigned tasks within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Work with the Project Engineer and Quality Engineer to define significant product characteristics required to meet customer expectations.
  • Work in conjunction with the Project Engineer to benchmark components when necessary.
  • Perform engineering functions including calculations, pre-production & production systems feasibility and etc.
  • Correspond with Germany on all projects.
  • Utilize Design of Experiments and process analysis to insure smooth transition from pre-production to production.
  • In conjunction with Purchasing, obtain vendor quotations, initiate P.O requisitions upon request and coordinate with Purchasing and Witzenmann suppliers to make sure all materials are made and shipped to meet program timing.
  • Coordinate and participate in activities as needed with plant personnel (i.e. Project Engineering, Production Leader, Production Control, Quality Engineering, etc.)
  • Work in direct contact with the customer when required -- follow up with documentation, both written and oral, to the remaining team members explaining what transpired.
  • Be present for pre-production trials and equipment buy-off to make sure all necessary materials and equipment are in place for production.
  • Maintain regular contact with the suppliers and utilize their resources whenever possible or necessary.
  • Participate in and track project open issues (Internal / Plant Side) assigned and maintained by the project engineering group for all projects utilizing the APQP process.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing of product samples when necessary.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production equipment & recommend corrective actions when required.
  • Perform Time studies of equipment & processes to insure product costs are accurate to the cost estimation.
  • Oversee all welding operations within the manufacturing facility.
  • Train and mentor other engineers and maintenance technicians on welding machines and functions.
  • In conjunction with maintenance, troubleshoots welding issues
  • Recommend welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems and any related components associated with the welding process.
  • Recommend and develop preventative maintenance procedures for all plant welding equipment including robotic systems. Evaluate processes and procedures to maintain or improve weld parameters and weld efficiency.
  • Assist in development of the weld quality control process.
  • Upholds corporate policies/procedures and employs the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards set by state/federal law and external certification bodies

20% Design, testing, debugging, troubleshooting


10% Develop quote packages, technical presentations


SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE JOB:

  • Minimal travel required.
  • Able to react quickly and implement fixes when a crisis arises.
  • Work with minimal direction and make decisions independently.
  • Remain updated on leading edge technologies through association with various industry trade organizations.
  • Works overtime as required and assigned.
  • Sounds and Noise Levels could be Distracting to job function.
  • Cramped Work Space and Awkward Positions possible.
  • Exposure to Hazardous Equipment – Must work in a safe manner and follow assigned company Lockout/Tagout rules.
  • Kneeling, Crouching, or Crawling; Using Hands on Objects, Tools, or Controls; Bending or Twisting the Body is necessary.
  • Use of common Protective and/or Safety Attire.
  • Needs to assess and pickup up heavy objects properly and use proper judgment in determining if a assistance by either man and or machine is needed to handle the object.
  • Continued education focused on Welding Technologies


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Weld Engineering degree and/or hands on weld manufacturing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of current use & leading edge technologies.
  • Able to learn about new products / technologies quickly.
  • Strong knowledge of material processing, tooling and part fabrication.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • 3+ years robotic welding engineering experience in a manufacturing facility.
