THE POSITION:

The Lead Cashier is responsible for stocking and inventorying product as well as maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of the retail location. The individual provides general customer service and assistance to guests and may process sales transactions. The Lead Cashier may be responsible for the oversight or delegation of responsibilities within Wintun Mini Mart. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary based on client requirements and business needs.

The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable incumbents with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Schedules and assigns work assignments to a retail team and oversees the completion of tasks;
  • Trains and guides staff members in customer service, cash handling, product knowledge, and other applicable processes and procedures;
  • Greets and assists customers while anticipating their needs;
  • Ensures products are stocked to appropriate levels and replenishes and arranges items as needed to maintain appearance;
  • Operates register, handles cash, and process credit card transactions;
  • Responsible for cash handling, safe verifications, and preparing deposits;
  • Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guest, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.;
  • Adheres to cash handling policies and procedures;
  • Ensures security of company assets;
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager;
  • May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Three (3) months of related experience and/or training desired

 

SUPERVISORIAL DUTIES: None


ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Perform specific tasks as assigned by the Management Team;
  • Promote and support Company image standards;
  • Comply with Company meal and rest break policies;
  • Communicate with supervisors;
  • Present a neat, clean appearance in uniform;
  • Adhere to all federal and state regulations including verifying age with a valid I.D. for any age restricted sales;
  • Follow the work schedule as posted, unless a change in schedule is arranged with the Store Manager;
  • Stay familiar with the Company Policies, Guides, ABC & Safety Protocols, Store Personnel Handbook, and bulletins;
  • Ensure Store Manager is made aware of any and all sales, cash, or operating discrepancies or problems;
  • Properly uses time clock, signs a timecard verifying all hours worked at the end of the pay period;
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all accidents immediately;
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos;
  • Ability to write correspondence;
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests and other team members;
  • Ability to communicate in English with guests;
  • Ability to add and subtract in order to make change, complete pay point reports, and account for numbers of a variety of products during vendor check-in;
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and quantity;
  • Cash handling/counting required daily;
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form;
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays;
  • Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment screening, which includes a drug test.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The team member occasionally works in high, precarious places, in outside weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock;
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Work schedules may at any time, as required by business operations, be adjusted for definite or indefinite periods of time so as to increase, decrease or otherwise change any non-exempt team member’s daily, weekly and/or shift hours of work and/or the days a team member will report for work.
