Seasonal Cashier - Wine Store Job at Acker in New York

Acker, the oldest and most respected wine shop in America is seeking a friendly and efficient part-time Seasonal Cashier to join our team during the busy holiday season. In this role, you will provide excellent customer service, assist customers with their purchases, and ensure smooth transactions at the checkout. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment with a passion for wine and spirits.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, answer questions, and assist with locating product locations.
• Point-of-Sale: Accurately process payments using the store's POS system.
• Product Knowledge: Have a basic understanding of wine and spirits to answer general customer inquiries or direct them to appropriate staff for recommendation.
• Stock Management: Assist in replenishing shelves, restocking merchandise, and maintaining displays at checkout areas.
• Cleanliness: Maintain a tidy checkout area, ensuring bags, receipt paper, and other materials are stocked and organized.
• Compliance: Follow all age verification protocols for alcohol sales and store policies regarding the sale of regulated products.
• Teamwork: Collaborate with other team members to meet daily goals and maintain a positive shopping experience for customers.
• Additional Duties: Perform other task as assigned by Manager or Supervisors.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior cashier or retail experience preferred.
• Previous experience in retail, particularly in a wine or liquor store, is preferred but not required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Knowledge: Basic knowledge of wines and/or spirts, and the ability to learn about various wine products.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, walk, and lift for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy boxes (up to 50lbs.)

Work Environment:

• Work is performed in a retail store environment with frequent exposure to varying temperatures and conditions.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
