PlumpJack Inn is a charming rustic Inn at the base of Palisades, one of the largest ski resorts in the U.S.. The Inn is situated at the edge of the Village at Palisades and the base of the mountain affording guests the opportunity a short walk to numerous lifts, plus the funitel, base-to-base gondola and the Mountain Tram. The Inn offers cozy accommodations featuring a mix of well-appointed guestrooms and suites. The PlumpJack Cafe is renowned in North Lake Tahoe for its seasonal menu and award-winning wine list. The PlumpJack Café Bar is a popular Apres destination featuring creative cocktails, craft beers and an extensive by-the-glass wine list.
Purpose of the role:
To facilitate seating and reservations for the restaurant, and to provide a gracious initial contact for arriving guests. To provide general supervision of the restaurant service staff to ensure service standards in the restaurant.
Responsibilities:
- To understand and respond to all guest needs and requests in a timely and professional manner, deferring to management when necessary, to ensure customer satisfaction.
- To extend a courteous, friendly and professional greeting to guests at arrival, and to thank them at departure.
- To make management aware of all guest comments and complaints.
- To be aware, at all times, of current house count, regular customers, visiting VIP’s and restaurant events, in order to provide personalized service to guests.
- To provide prompt, efficient and gracious service, in person or over the telephone, including making restaurant reservations, greeting guests with salutations, seating guests as they arrive, providing menus, and responding to all requests for information regarding the restaurant.
- To oversee and ensure continuity of service in the dining room, including assisting service staff, as necessary.
- To ensure proper rotation of service stations when seating guests.
- To ensure the cleanliness and good condition of all menus, check presenters and wine lists used during each shift.
- To void or make changes to guest checks, as needed, to ensure customer satisfaction and correct procedures.
- To properly record covers, staffing, service flow and guest comments in log book, for each shift.
- To represent and market the Restaurant in a positive and professional manner as requested and continually promote PlumpJack internally and externally by attending special events when requested and building relationships both on and off property.
- Promote and comply with all policies and procedures of PlumpJack.
- Immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions and avoid injury to self and others.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas and equipment.
- Attend all mandatory meetings as directed.
- Perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
- Adhere to the attendance and punctuality policy as outlined in the PlumpJack Employee Handbook. To report to work as scheduled and be prepared to start work.
- To remain at work for the entire work shift, except for meal and rest periods or when required to leave on authorized PlumpJack business.
Minimum requirements:
- Previous restaurant experience preferred.
- Food Handler and Responsible Beverage Service Certificate preferred.
- Basic knowledge of foods, service standards and procedures.
- Detail oriented, organized, and efficient.
- Diplomatic and calm with strong verbal communication skills.
- Courteous, friendly, and professional manner.
- Good team player. Customer service focus. Able to work productively with little supervision. Trustworthy and reliable.
Working Conditions:
Works primarily indoors, works in clean, adequately lighted restaurant. May be exposed to weather conditions while seating guests outdoors. Work areas may be noisy and crowded. Makes frequent trips to kitchen where air may be moist, warm and odorous from cooking foods. Kitchen floors are uneven, and may be slippery from moisture and grease.
Physical Demands:
Stands/walks short distances throughout shift. Moderate to frequent use of stairs, daily. Heavy use of phones, daily. Must be able to work well under pressure. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
