Position Qualifications


Education: Associate's degree in a related discipline or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience

Experience/Skills/Abilities: Typically requires three to five years of related mechanical or production experience, including two years in a related lead role. Experience working in a union environment preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mentors and develops employees into problem solvers
  • Accomplishes manufacturing results by planning, monitoring and appraising job results
  • Actively coaches, counsels and disciplines employees supporting enforcement of systems, policies and procedures
  • Clearly communicates job expectations
  • Supervises the activities of employees involved in production, assembly, fabrication operations or support functions.
  • Assigns employees to tasks to maximize productivity, minimize costs and maintain quality
  • Reviews work schedules, material and manpower resources
  • Directs staff through lead employee or directly
  • Participates in establishing and modifying operation methods and processes by recommending changes in materials, equipment and procedures
  • Performs advanced production tasks as needed
  • Reviews and compiles operational records, such as floor inspection reports and tool, equipment and supply usage and safety reports
  • Participates in special projects as required

  • Establishes and utilizes frameworks and systems, including tools such as visual management, problem solving, standard work, 5S and kaizen.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises the day-to-day workflow of workers; responsible for the training, guidance and discipline of assigned staff.

Competencies

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.

Technical:
  • An understanding of the principles of lean manufacturing and how to implement the tools in support of operational performance goals
  • Appropriate knowledge of relevant safety and environmental regulations and procedures
  • Ability to use the manufacturing information system to obtain information pertaining to the facility
  • Ability to create and maintain documents in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and have some exposure to a manufacturing information system.

Leadership:
  • Ability to influence others in a desired direction using goals, training, standards/rules, recognition, coaching, team spirit, assistance, initiative, self-control, honesty and priority setting to achieve business results
  • Ability to handle personnel issues decisively and fairly

Travel Required: Occasional; a valid driver’s license and ability to insure employee as a driver under the company auto policy is required.

Hours: Regular 40-hour workweek. Overtime as needed.

Working Conditions: Factory floor. Requires standing, walking and sitting at a computer.
