Sports Coach

Coach Job Summary

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Head Coach with a strong understanding of youth development and a commitment to helping young people reach their full potential. The Head Coach will be responsible for overseeing his or her sport; they'll be coaching, providing
guidance, discipline, instruction, and support to players, and creating an environment of learning and growth.

Key responsibilities/ Skill Development:
  • Coaches are responsible for teaching and developing the fundamental skills and techniques of the sport. You are required to design practice sessions, drills, and workouts that help athletes improve their abilities.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program for youth athletes
  • Develop an athletic plan that is strategic and consistent with the development of our student athletes. (summer workouts, jamborees, camps, etc.)
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect.
  • Provide individual instruction and feedback to players.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of players.
  • Motivate and inspire players to reach their goals.
  • Organize and lead practices, games, and other activities.
  • Ensure safety of players at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and inventory.
  • Maintain records of player attendance and grade audits weekly/bi-weekly.
  • Completing all mandatory MSHAA required testing if coach HS Sport.
  • Keep count of inventory (Jersey's, EQ, and etc.)
  • At the end of all athletic season coaches are expected to complete EOY Coach Evaluation. EOY Coach Evaluation will be for the Head Coach and AD to discuss athletic performance and progression of the team and coach. Evaluating behavior, sportsmanship, culture, inventory, and etc.

Game Strategy and Planning:
  • You must game plan and develop strategies. Coaches develop game strategies, including offensive and defensive tactics, lineup decisions, and in-game adjustments. They analyze opponents' strengths and weaknesses to create effective game plans.
    Physical Conditioning:
  • Coaches are required to oversee the physical conditioning of their athletes, ensuring they are in good shape and able to perform at their best. This includes designing fitness routines, monitoring progress, and preventing injuries.
    Character Development:
  • Coaches have a unique opportunity to teach important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, time management, and perseverance. They often serve as role models and mentors for their players.

Academic and Behavioral Accountability:
  • Kairos Academies require student-athletes to maintain a certain level of academic performance and behavior.
  • Coaches are required to monitor athletes' academic progress and behavior, offering support and guidance to ensure they meet these requirements.

Safety and Injury Prevention:
  • Coaches must prioritize the safety of their athletes. Coaches must also complete all required training before the deadlines.
  • This involves teaching proper techniques to minimize the risk of injuries and providing immediate care in case of accidents.

Communication:
  • Effective communication is essential for coaches. Coaches MUST communicate with athletes, parents, school administrators, and other coaches to ensure everyone is informed about schedules, expectations, and any relevant updates.

Crisis Management:
  • In cases of conflicts, disagreements, or issues within the team, coaches may need to manage these situations in a fair and effective manner. This could involve conflict resolution, addressing disciplinary matters, or dealing with interpersonal issues among athletes.

Equipment and Facilities:
  • Coaches are responsible for managing equipment and facilities, ensuring that everything is in proper working condition for practices and games.

Community and School Involvement:
  • Coaches may represent the school and team in the community, fostering positive relationships and promoting the program. They might also be involved in fundraising or community service efforts.

Player Development and Advancement:
  • For athletes with the potential to play at the collegiate or professional level, coaches may assist in the recruitment process, helping athletes create highlight videos, contacting college coaches, and providing guidance on the next steps in their athletic careers.
  • Overall, middle school coaches have a multifaceted role that extends beyond the realm of sports. They contribute to the overall development of their athletes, both on and off the field, and play an essential part in shaping young individuals' character and skills. ACCOUNTABILITY is a MUST!

Kairos develops students not just into freethinkers, ready to thrive in a modern economy, but self-governing citizens, ready to lead both themselves and their communities.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in physical education, Sports Science, or related field.
  • At least two years of coaching experience with youth athletes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of sports rules and regulations.
  • Physical ability to demonstrate drills and exercises.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Has to complete all MSHSAA requirements and tests.

Stipend Paid out at end of season. ($1,500-$3,000 depending on sport and experience)

Schedule:
  • After school 4pm-
    • Some weekends and evenings will be required.

  • Saint Louis, MO 63118: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting.
