The Smithson Valley High School Boys Lacrosse Club represents Smithson Valley High School, Pieper High School, and surrounding private schools in the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL). Our governing board is actively searching for qualified candidates for the position of Varsity Head Coach/Program Director.About Smithson Valley LAX: The Smithson Valley Lacrosse program was officially established in 2009. In 2011, we grew into a full program, opening it up to kids from kindergarten to 12th grade. In fall of 2010, we joined CTYLA (Central Texas Youth Lacrosse Association) for the 2011 season and had a mix of boys and girls, however, only played as boys' teams due to a lack of girls to form an independent girls' league. This was our first year to enter THSLL as a D2 high school program. In 2019, we were runner-up in the D2 State Championship game and have been competitive with the Austin area teams. In 2024, we added both youth and high school girls lacrosse to our organization, supporting the growth of the sport. Today our program consists of 120 boys and girls representing our schools and community in the Bulverde/Spring Branch area.What to expect: The Smithson Valley LAX board oversees the business aspects of the club, including coach contract oversight, fundraising, sponsorships, registrations, parent relations, and defining strategic goals. Smithson Valley LAX coaches enjoy coaching autonomy and a supportive board open to advice and recommendations for day-to-day operations and longer-term strategic vision for the club.Preferred Candidates must exhibit:Exceptionally high lacrosse IQ with previous coaching experience.Collegiate lacrosse playing experience (NCAA Division I/II/III preferred).Strong organizational and analytical skills on the field to enable tactical pivots.Proper sportsmanship and respect for players, officials, opponents, fans, and other coaches.Mentorship of player-athletes by modeling behavior and advancing technical ability.Programmatic approach to develop youth level coaches and our players.Willingness to coordinate offseason skills and training development.Strategic approach to continue to grow our program.Key Responsibilities:Represent Smithson Valley LAX positively in the community and with local area middle and high school athletic programs, and THSLL.Administer fall season (October-December, 2 practices/week and 2 tournaments in Texas) and spring regular season (January-May, with 3-4 evenings of practice with games in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston).Oversight of coaching staff, which includes offensive and defensive coordinators, assistant coaches, and JV coaches.Interested applicants should email a cover letter, resume, and three references to coxtrent00@gmail.com.All applicants will be reviewed by the Smithson Valley LAX board.
