South College is seeking candidates for adjunct Faculty position for the developing Respiratory Therapy Program. The Respiratory Therapy Faculty is responsible for teaching respiratory therapy courses, providing continuous review of the curriculum with the PD and DCE, developing student assessment and critical thinking skills, and assisting in the lab and clinical experience.


General Overview

The adjunct instructor is a contract employee, based on quarterly program needs, by the sponsoring institution, South College. The adjunct instructor assumes responsibility for scheduled didactic and laboratory courses in the Respiratory Therapy Program. Duties include:

· Demonstrate professionalism and provide quality customer service in accordance with South College’s values

· Coordinating and evaluating students during laboratory courses

· Assist the Program Director with fiscal planning and recommending the purchase of supplies and equipment

· Attending advisory committee meetings

· Teaching program courses as needed according to specified learning outcomes

· Academic advising and career related counseling for students

· Exhibit flexibility, willingness to learn, and ability to change

· Monitoring student retention and identifying and assisting students at-risk

· Maintaining professional development in current healthcare trends, research, issues and practices (2 per year)

· Maintaining faculty development in current teaching strategies and assessment methods (2 per year)

· Providing support for programmatic and institutional initiatives


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction and Curriculum

· Functions as a faculty member and teaches any assigned courses and acts as a substitute instructor as needed

· Participates in faculty meetings

· Recommend program equipment, supplies, library materials, textbooks, and other items for purchase and use

· Monitor the safety and quality of instructional materials

· Actively engage in retention activities including documented communication with both students and administration regarding participation in courses and progress

· Identify and refer at-risk students to specific academic support services

· Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus

· Ensure safety and sanitation of all labs, equipment, supplies, and classrooms

· Respond to student questions and concerns on a timely basis

· Utilize community resources in the program/classroom (ex. Field trips, guest speakers, etc.)

· Suitably challenge, engage, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect

· Maintain required office hours compatible with students’ schedules

· Review Program Handbooks annually

Leadership

· Works collaboratively with others in a diverse and inclusive environment

· Provide annual documentation of continuing professional and educational development. This can include college courses and/or seminars on topics such as learning theory, curriculum design, teaching methodology, assessment techniques, etc.

· Attend regularly scheduled program meetings, academic in-service workshops, and college-wide meetings

· Maintain confidentiality, positive communication, accurate records, and an organized, safe working environment

· Adhere to academic policies and procedures, including but not limited to the faculty and employee handbook and institutional catalog

· Formulate and implement goals for growth

· Promote a positive working relationship

· Serve on community, state, and professional committees and boards

· Maintain current licensure, certification, and professional development

· Complete other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Campus

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Credentials: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Experience: Must provide and possess effective leadership and proficiency in instructional methodologies, ongoing evaluation and assessment, instruction, education, and counseling for respiratory therapy.

Must possess the equivalent of four (4) years’ experience as a RRT with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory therapy.

Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.

Must possess a current and in good standing state license.
