The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Dean of Strategic Financial Management, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Position Dimensions and Impact to the University:
The Assistant Dean of Strategic Financial Management serves as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the University of Washington School of Nursing. This senior leadership position is responsible for the strategic oversight, management, and direction of all financial operations within the School. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the Dean, senior leadership, and key stakeholders to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of the School of Nursing. This role will also contribute to the overall strategic planning and decision-making processes, ensuring that financial considerations are integrated into all aspects of the School's financial operations.

Under general direction of the Executive Dean of the University of Washington School of Nursing (UWSoN), the CFO will exercise a comprehensive scope of administrative responsibilities, including: financial planning/management, budget development and allocation, fiscal operations and compliance, and leading a team of 8-10 finance and shared services staff. It is the primary responsibility of this position to lead the development and implementation of standard operating procedures related to fiscal matters in compliance with university, state, and federal rules and regulations in support of the School’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities • Financial Strategy and Planning (25%) • Budget Management and Resource Allocation (25%) • Financial Operations and Compliance (25%) • Leadership and Team Development (25%)

Financial Strategy and Planning (25%) : • Develop and implement a comprehensive financial strategy that aligns with the School of Nursing’s strategic goals and objectives. • Lead long-term financial planning and forecasting efforts to ensure financial stability and sustainability. • Advise the Dean and senior leadership on financial matters, including budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management. • Develop and maintain academic program revenue projection models in support of the School's long-range strategic planning efforts.

Budget Management and Resource Allocation (25%) :· • Oversee the core business processes associated with planning, management, and accounting for the School’s resources, including annual, biennial, and five-year budget planning and development, generating projections and analyses, identifying problem areas, and making recommendations. Financial resources include state, federal, self-sustaining, private grants and contracts, and gift funds. • Ensure that budgetary processes and allocation of resources are transparent, inclusive, and aligned with strategic priorities. • Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports and analyses to the Dean and other stakeholders. • Lead efforts to optimize resource allocation and utilization across the School. • Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives and identify opportunities for revenue generation.

Financial Operations and Compliance (25%) : • Responsible for all financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting and procurement. • Ensure compliance with university policies, internal and external audit programs, state and federal regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). • Oversee the management of the School’s endowments, grants, contracts, and other financial assets. • Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring the School’s financial health and sustainability. • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting. • Conduct financial analyses and scenario planning to inform strategic decision-making. • Prepare reports for the Executive Team as needed and provide data for annual surveys and the periodic School re-accreditation process. Provide feedback for equipment and supply acquisition based on course needs.

Leadership and Team Development (25%) : • Serve as a key member of the School’s leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making. • Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to support the financial needs of various programs and initiatives. • Represent the School of Nursing in financial matters within the broader university community and with external stakeholders. • Serve as the School’s liaison with other Health Science schools and University offices on resource issues including finances, budget, and procurements. • Lead and manage the School’s finance team, providing direction, support, and professional development opportunities. • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes excellence in financial management. • Ensure that the finance team operates efficiently and effectively, meeting the needs of the School and its stakeholders, including the development of Workday and budget management training resources for new and existing staff and faculty. • Deliver presentations on complex financial and/or operational topics to a wide variety of stakeholders. • Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the school.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field with strong emphasis on quantitative analysis. • 4-5 years of demonstrated experience with financial stewardship and leading strategic financial planning and management processes at an academic institution or complex large-scale organization, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in a higher education or nonprofit setting.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Desired Qualifications: · • Executive-level experience at the University of Washington, or similar complex organization. • 10+ years of relevant experience in a large-scale academic institution or complex organization Proven experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and resource management. • Computer proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, pivot tables. • Proven track record in exercising discretion and independent judgment effectively in decision-making processes. • Demonstrated experience of successful handling of multiple projects with critical deadlines. • Ability to interpret and communicate to others budget information and complex policies and procedures. CPA or equivalent • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and risk management. • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and lead a team in a complex, dynamic environment. Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy, and productivity. • Functional working knowledge of project management principles. Demonstrated success with advocating for resources. • Commitment to the mission and values of the University of Washington School of Nursing. Expertise maintaining service excellence. • Experience in a work environment that conducts sponsored research. • Ability to synthesize analytical and human capital to produce informative data that aids business decisions Ability to identify and maximize internal resources. • Experience with Adaptive and Workday Finance.
