Position Summary
The Learning Specialist/Academic Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and overseeing of the development and implementation of programs and services designed to meet the needs of student-athletes diagnosed with specific learning disabilities and/or considered to be at risk academically. In addition, the individual will serve as an Academic Coordinator for 4-5 teams which manages the NCAA rules and regulations regarding academic eligibility and day to day academic success. Lastly, the position will develop and coordinate an organized effort to enhance and nurture the relationship between the student-athlete and SASS and the student-athletes, coaches and faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is a prerequisite for this position.
- Experience in education/school counseling, or in a Division I athletic institution, or combination of both.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educations, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to foster and maintain working relationships with various athletic and University constituencies.
- This position requires evening and weekend assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency administering academic support programming preferred.
- Demonstrated experience as a learning specialist for student-athletes strongly preferred.
- Experience in teaching learning strategies and developing academic intervention strategies to enhance learning for students with academic challenges preferred.
- Working knowledge of computers and student database systems.
