Job Summary:The Public Sector Manager is responsible for partnering with senior leaders within the Practice to manage business development, practice development, and project delivery activities. The Manager is a member of the Public Sector Practice leadership team and may be involved in direct supervision of staff, performance management, problem resolution, task delegation, and/or client project execution. The Manager will drive problem solving and fact finding, while working side by side with experienced team members, management, and client leadership, and will support or lead firm practice, solution, and business development initiatives.Job Duties:Delivers a full range of services that will use your educational background, experience, and organizational skills while serving BDO’s dynamic public sector client baseAssists with firm practice, solution, and business development initiativesSupports or lead task areas while coordinating closely with engagement team management and client leadership on strategy, planning, execution, status, and review processesSupports clients with key financial and budgetary, information technology, and operational transformation initiatives.Adapts to a changing client environment while meeting client expectationsManages priorities and works effectively to initiate correspondence and task completion. Supports multiple efforts through flexible multi-task coordinationProvides summary recommendations to team leadership regarding assigned work streamApplies fundamental industry knowledge and standards to support client reviews, improvements, and/or implementationsCommunicates and maintains relationships with key client personnel to ensure shared understanding of business processes, operations, and functionsPrepares presentations, briefings, and actively participate in client meetings and day-to-day interactionsCommunicates with team management through effective status reporting and demonstrate ownership and accountability for assigned task areas and work productsEstablishes professional rapport with clients and other organizationsEvaluates work products for technical accuracy, deliverable quality, and overall value to the clientAttend relevant training, business seminars, and/or conferences to stay current with technical skills that align with client’s needs and changes in the industrySupports recruiting efforts by identifying potential candidates and participating in interviewsSupports business development meetings and/or proposal development process with guidance from Public Sector Practice leadershipResearches industry and market trends and develops relevant presentations and materials in support of potential firm initiativesCultivates growth of existing and new businessOther duties as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities:May supervise the day-to-day workload of Public Sector direct reports related to client projects, business development, and other activities, including maintaining team productivity and review of work productsEvaluates the performance of any Public Sector direct reports and assist in the development of goals and objectives to enhance professional developmentDelivers periodic performance feedback and completes the annual performance evaluation for Public Sector staff as appropriateServes as a mentor / career advisor to Public Sector staff as appropriateQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelor’s Degree, required, with a focus in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Information Technology, preferredMaster’s degree or relevant industry certification, preferred (see certifications below)Experience:Six (6) or more years of relevant professional experience, requiredFederal financial management and accounting experience, preferredProgressive experience in managing or leading firm initiatives, client project activities, and/or staff, preferredExperience with DoD financial statement audit, internal control testing or analysis, and/or coordinating with external auditors, preferredFamiliarity with some or all of the following: Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) Guidance, the United States Standard General Ledger (USSGL), FASAB, CFO Act, FMFIA, FFMIA, ICOFR, GAGAS (Yellow Book), GAO Green Book, OMB Circulars, COSO Framework, preferredExperience leading or supporting Public Sector practice, solution, and/or business development initiatives, preferredPublic speaking and/or training experience, preferredLicense(s)/Certification(s):Active minimum TS/SCI with Polygraph, requiredRelevant industry certification preferred, such as CPA, PMP, CGFM, CDFM, and/or CISA, preferred Software:Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suites (especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), preferredFamiliarity with Visio and/or other graphic design programs, preferredSharePoint or audit response tool experience, preferredLanguage(s):N/AOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to support possible project-related travelStrong research, analytical, and problem-solving skillsWell-developed and professional interpersonal skillsAbility to own work product development and demonstrate initiative and accountability for assigned task areas, effectively coordinating with team members and across various organizationsAbility to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm and clientExcellent verbal and written communication skills; detail orientedAbility to work independently within a team environment and with a customer service focusStrong organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentIndividual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.National Range:  $135,000 - $185,000Maryland Range:  $135,000 - $185,000NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $135,000 - $185,000Join us at BDO, where you will find more than a career, you’ll find a place where your work is impactful, and you are valued for your individuality.
