The AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate seeks to hire a motivated and experienced mid-level DR-2/DR-3 Scientist or Engineer to serve as the Science and Technology Protection Lead in the Security Operations and Information Protection Branch of the Integration and Operations Division. This position will be filled at the DR-2 (GS-12/13) or DR-3 (GS-14 equivalent) level and is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supports directorate and enterprise programs to highlight and protect key scientific, technology, and information assets.
- Serves as lead subject-matter expert for Science and Technology (S&T) Protection for Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (RX)
- Works closely with and supports RX Chief Engineer, Chief Scientist, Scientists/Engineers (S&Es), and Security team implementation of S&T Protection requirements outlined in DoDI 5000.83 (Technology and Program Protection to Maintain Technological Advantage) and local guidance.
- Performs a broad range of multidisciplinary scientific/engineering work to develop and manage processes and to implement technical policies and strategies which strengthen the protection of RX S&T.
- Leads RX in initial/annual Fundamental Research reviews, identifying Critical Technology Elements (CTEs), executing risk management processes, documenting decisions, reviews and updates S&T Protection Plans in coordination with S&T Managers to identify, document, define, and protect Critical Technology Elements (CTEs) within S&T Protection Plans in support of RX S&T research initiatives.
- Teams with Security S&T Protection Lead to ensure S&T Protection Plans within RX integrate engineering principles with multiple security disciplines (information, industrial, personnel, OPSEC, physical security) and comply with legal and regulatory requirements while meeting the customer needs.
- Work closely with Security S&T Protection lead, S&T Protection Plan owners, S&T Managers, R&D contracting and others to establish contractual requirements, to ensure annual review process for risks to RX S&T are accomplished, and to select cost-effective mitigation strategies to ensure S&T Protection throughout the technology lifecycle for internal and external RX S&T efforts.
- Facilitates and coordinates enterprise and directorate meetings to include S&T Protection Working Groups (STPWG).
- Serves as liaison to security functions for S&T Managers; communicates regularly with the broader Information Protection community to maintain awareness of current guidelines and topics of interest to the Air and Space and the greater DoD community.
- Leads collaborative efforts with RX and the Intelligence Community to enable mutual exchange of information protecting critical technologies and research areas.
- Integrates complementary acquisition, assessment, and intelligence efforts to bolster protection initiatives.
- Assists S&Es with determining the need for and the acquiring of intelligence for programs with other government organizations.
- Assists S&Es with determining if their program is generating intel data and how to protect it.
- Accomplishes required compliance and internal control activities (inspections, self-assessment, etc.) as the S&T Protection functional lead and may assist in other areas as needed.
- Brings S&T insights to strengthen mission support efforts. Promotes a culture where Intellectual Property (IP) is developed, documented, protected and encouraged.
- Conducts OPSEC reviews of research-related documents submitted for public release; Assists with identification of S&T-related OPSEC Critical Information and Indicators.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- TS/SCI Position designation.
- Candidates must have or be able to obtain TS/SCI security clearance.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing
- Possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree, in a relevant technical field, from an accredited (or ABET accredited for engineering) academic institution.
- Experience managing or performing scientific research/engineering
- This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level 2 (Practitioner) certification in Engineering & Technical Management. Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications on a resume (if applicable).
- Travel and/or performance of additional duties may be required.

- Masters or PhD degree in science or engineering field
- Experience conducting and /or directing technical research and/or technical program management which utilized aspects of S&T protection.
