The AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate seeks to hire a motivated and experienced senior-level General Engineer (0801), Materials Engineer (0806), Mechanical Engineer (0830), Electrical Engineer (0850), Electronics Engineer (0855), Industrial Engineer (0896), Physicist (1310), Chemist (1320), or related Job Series to serve as the Digital Manufacturing and Supply Chain Branch Chief (RXMD) in the Manufacturing, Industrial Technologies, and Energy Division (RXM) of the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (RX) in the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). This position is open to current DR-04s or equivalent (GS-15) and DR-03s or equivalent (GS-14) with one year of relevant specialized experience. The position will be filled at the DR-04 level and is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
This position is open to current Air/Space Force civilian employees only.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as Chief of the Digital Engineering and Supply Chain Branch
- Leads the planning and execution of manufacturing technology investment programs that enhance the industrial base capability to affordably fabricate, assemble and maintain current and future DoD weapon systems, accelerate the maturation of emerging technologies, and reduce the development risk of the advanced manufacturing and repair technologies required to produce and maintain advanced aerospace weapon systems.
- Develops next generation manufacturing processes and enterprise methodologies to overcome defense-unique production and repair challenges. In this role, develops strategies for technology development/maturation as well as for human capital as a supervisor of approximately 20 program managers and researchers.
- Manages a diverse team of government, military, and contractors working as program managers and researchers in advancing digital manufacturing and supply chain.
- Shapes the culture and crafts effective business practices of this branch. Leads transition of developed technologies to legacy, developmental & future USAF, USSF, and/or DoD system components to increase system performance & efficiency, reduce cost, and/or accelerate manufacturing avenues

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree, in a relevant technical field, from an accredited (or ABET accredited for engineering) academic institution
- Possess and maintain a Secret security clearance
- Must have Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management or obtain within 60 months of assignment
- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade or equivalent in other pay systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a government supervisor and/or team leader managing a diverse group of employees (various labor series, academic degrees, and job skill certifications) across the General Service (GS) and Lab Demo (DO/DR) systems
- Understanding of the Defense industrial base and associated supply chain challenges
- Understanding of digital engineering concepts
- Strong project management skills with experience tracking and managing cost, schedule, and performance
- Extensive planning, budgeting, development, and execution of research and advanced development efforts
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with program managers and senior leaders
