Description

Role Description: The Assistant Controller works closely with the Vice President, Accounting & Project Controls in directing the organization's accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger. The role will require communicating with all Huitt-Zollars departments and assisting with providing essential training for staff.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

Duties:

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of financial reporting, planning and budgeting systems.
  • Oversees the preparation of month-end, year-end and periodic reporting as well as required filings.
  • Ensures that all corporate and required accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed by the organization.
  • Act as liaison with auditors and external accounting team(s).
  • Assist with reporting to Senior Leadership and/or external agencies.
  • Assist with Cash Flow forecasting.
  • Oversee tax filing process(es) where appropriate.
  • Coach and develop accounting staff.
  • Assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested.

  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process.

  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
  • Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the project team and office.
  • Complete assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality.
  • Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish assignments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience.
  • CPA designation desired but not required.
  • CPA Firm Experience desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, such as Deltek high preferred.
  • Experience working within an architecture, engineering or construction setting is desired.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities

This position will office out of our Dallas, TX location in a 'Class A' office space including a state-of-the-art gym (no cost), covered parking, food court, and more.
