Overview:
We are a rapidly growing, privately-owned company seeking a highly skilled and strategic Financial Controller to join our restaurant side operations. The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial planning, analysis, and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation. This role demands a well-rounded problem solver who can quickly adapt, learn, and process new information to effectively support the CFO and executive team in steering the company's strategic direction. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and management, extensive experience in the restaurant industry, and a proven track record of managing financial operations. This position offers significant potential for professional growth, experience, exposure, and compensation, and will report directly to the CFO.
Objectives of the Role:
Accounting Operations Management:
Oversee all accounting operations, including Billing, Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (GL), Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
Budget and Financial Forecasts:
Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts.
Report variances and provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
Ensure accuracy and compliance with financial reporting standards.
Close Processes:
Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Government Reporting and Tax Filings:
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Additional Duties:
Perform additional controller duties as necessary.
Provide financial insights and support for strategic initiatives and projects.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
Accounting and Finance Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive financial leadership experience in the restaurant industry.
Industry Experience: Proven working experience as a Financial Controller in the restaurant industry.
Auditing Experience: Proven experience in working with external auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Excel, including Macros and Financial Modeling.
Software Proficiency: Strong experience with financial management software. Knowledge of Yardi and/or GP software is a plus.
Compliance Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements, including GAAP.
Adaptability: Must thrive in a fast-paced, family-owned and operated environment.
Professional Representation: Ability to be a polished representative of the company, enhancing its profile with investors, banks, and industry insiders.
Work Ethic: Can-do attitude with a strong work ethic and a hands-on approach.
Problem-Solving: Quick learner with strong accounting and finance-based problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ownership: Results-driven with an extreme sense of ownership, and business savvy with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Communication: Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence key business partners and colleagues.
IT Knowledge: Basic knowledge of IT is required.
Flexibility: Must have a flexible work schedule and be willing to work extended hours/weekends as per business requirements.
Travel: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required to support business needs.
Fieldwork and Site Visits: Open to conducting fieldwork and site visits as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
Leadership: Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop a high-performing finance team.
Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities to align financial strategies with business objectives.
Location Requirement: Candidates must be located within Orange County or within a 20-25-mile radius of the job locations at La Palma and Newport Coast Drive.

Salary: $150,000 - $225,000 per year
