Who Are We Looking For?
Mobiz seeks to add a Controller to the team to play a pivotal role in the financial health and strategic direction of an organization. This individual is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting, and providing insightful analysis to support decision-making processes.
This is a hybrid role where the selected candidate will be required to be in office 3 days a week in Houston, Texas.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Oversee Financial Operations: Manage and supervise all aspects of the company's financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Financial Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports. Present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies to provide necessary information and documentation.
- Budget Preparation: Develop and coordinate the annual budget process. Work closely with department heads to prepare detailed budgets and forecasts.
- Variance Analysis: Monitor and analyze budget variances. Provide detailed explanations and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Financial Planning: Assist in the development of long-term financial strategies and business plans. Provide financial models and forecasts to support strategic initiatives.
- Internal Controls: Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess financial risks. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the company's financial interests.
- Policy Development: Establish and enforce financial policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor the finance team. Provide guidance, training, and development opportunities to enhance team performance and professional growth.
- Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment within the finance team and across departments. Promote open communication and teamwork to achieve organizational goals.
The Controller will also be responsible for overseeing tax planning activities, ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations, and implementing strategies to optimize tax liabilities.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or professional certification (CPA, CMA) is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Accounting Software: Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) is essential. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Preferred
- Financial Analysis: Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of GAAP, IFRS, and other relevant accounting principles and standards.
- Leadership: Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities with a strategic mindset to identify and address financial challenges.
