The chemist in this role will be responsible for leading projects focusing on Vehicle Refinish pigment dispersion and toner development. This role will require the ability to perform at a high level on a cross-functional team to meet the technical specifications defined by the customers in these segments. This position will be accountable for reformulation of existing product lines to address pigment needs and formulation of new products to expand color matching capability. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS Independently lead development projects of moderate to high complexity within the Automotive Toner Team. Utilize proven coatings technology to address supply disruptions. Identify new coatings technologies to enhance quality and bring customer value. Complete product development project(s) within the defined project timelines. Provide support to manufacturing and internal customers as requested. Identify formula/process adjustments including test methods; implementation of solutions determined via experimental work. Ability to independently design and execute experiments utilizing the scientific method. Prepare and test paint samples, analyze data and provide conclusions for path forward. Communicates with manager, Marketing, Manufacturing, Procurement, vendors, and various business partners to ensure the successful commercialization of products; utilizes internal networks when possible. Support and follow PCG Stage-Gate and Quality Systems. Work effectively in a multi-functional team environment. Provide training and guidance to 0 - 2 technicians and/or lower-level chemists. Develop the technical skills of team members through on-the-job training. Achieve results through use of established laboratory and professional procedures. Maintain a safe work area through observance of all laboratory safety procedures and practices. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. 5 years of coatings formulation experience in an industrial setting. Expertise with structure-property relationship as it pertains to automotive refinish. Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's Degree or higher in a science related area 7 years of coatings formulation experience 3 years of Automotive coatings experience Prior experience formulating and processing pigment dispersions in aqueous and non-aqueous media. Prior knowledge of Automotive polymers and structure-property relationship Demonstrated experience utilizing DFSS tools. Experience operating paint processing equipment (mills) Knowledge of structure-property relationship, specifically for color development and the effect on physical film properties.
