POSITION SUMMARY
The Plant Engineer position is accountable for the planning, design, engineering, supervision, safety, and close-out of both capital and non-capital projects in support of the Carnegie manufacturing operation, by applying the principles of engineering, chemistry, physics, and computer science.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Plant Engineer position is accountable for the planning, design, engineering, supervision, safety, and close-out of both capital and non-capital projects in support of the Carnegie manufacturing operation, by applying the principles of engineering, chemistry, physics, and computer science.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide project development skills, including capital estimation, project justification, budget management, capital appropriations, writing detailed engineering and safety reviews.
- Complete project implementation including project execution, contractor supervision, startup support, coordination of projects with site departments, and document control.
- Develop and assist in delivering training to site personnel on new or modified systems and equipment.
- Provide support to operations and maintenance as needed in day-to-day activities.
- Provide guidance and expert advice to management or other groups on technical, systems, or process-related topics
- Specify and organize plant trails or laboratory experiments necessary to establish optimal process parameters in terms of safety, quality, operating, efficiency and capacity.
- Establish manufacturing standards, monitoring actual plant performance, and make proposals for improvement. Administer the cost efficiency improvement program.
- Assist in commissioning of new plant equipment and in troubleshooting of existing processes.
- Contribute to development of reliability and maintenance programs for new and modified equipment.
- Drive process improvements using lean technologies.
- Assist in HAZOP studies and safety based facility upgrades.
- Work with finance on capital budgeting, forecasting, and the closeout of financial segments of projects

The Ideal Candidate
Desired Background
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering. A minimum of 7-years of experience in a manufacturing environment required as well as a minimum of 3-years' experience in relevant project/process engineering.

- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, develop solutions and find root cause of plant safety and operational issues.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Working knowledge of power distributions systems, PLC's & automation, mechanical systems, utilities, and reliability.
- Position based in Pittsburgh, PA
- Full time position working 5 days per week.
- Flexible schedule available
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Good interpersonal skills are needed as the person interfaces substantially within the business and customer base.
