Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Deputy Chief Engineer candidate to join a multidisciplinary team for the Enduring Shield program at our Huntsville, AL location. Enduring Shield is a mobile ground-based weapon system designed to acquire, track, engage and defeat unmanned aircraft systems, cruise missiles, and rockets, artillery and mortars. The Deputy Chief Engineer will work directly with the Chief Engineer and Program Manager along with organizational leadership to ensure all aspects of the Enduring Shield Program engineering efforts are planned, executed, and communicated to the customer properly.

Primary Responsibilities

The Deputy Chief Engineer will be responsible for engineering technical baselines, ensuring compliance to technical requirements, coordinating engineering effort and leading the engineering organization to define and execute engineering effort. The Deputy Chief Engineer will support long term program planning including technical roadmap for pre-planned product improvements, IRAD objective development and support and other adds/improvements. The Deputy Chief Engineer will support the Chief Engineer as the primary point of contact for program engineering status to the customer and internal business leadership .

Basic Qualifications
  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Candidate must have 8+ years of relevant experience in the defense industry or 6+ years with MS degree
  • Candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Candidate must be comfortable working at a system level, but diving into the technical details when needed
  • Candidates must have experience effectively communicating within a team environment and have experience mentoring & guiding team members
  • Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area
  • Candidates must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance


Preferred Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates with 8+ years of technical leadership experience

Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:
  • Missile Systems
  • Air Defense Systems
  • IBCS (Integrated Battle Command System)
  • Leading technical teams including defining technical direction and estimating cost/schedule
  • Systems engineering principles and methodologies
  • Business development activities including developing briefings, white papers, and proposals

Pay Range: Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
