Leidos Hypersonics Division is seeking a qualified Deputy Chief Engineer - Mechanical to support the Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonics Test Bed (MACH-TB) Flight Test Program. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. Leidos is involved in multiple contracts to provide hardware and systems for high energy weapons, launchers, hypersonics, and target surrogates for several DoD customers.

Primary Responsibilities
The focus of the MACH-TB Program is to develop rapid-cadence, affordable flight-testing capabilities to quickly advance the Technology Readiness Level of our nation's hypersonic technologies. To that end, the Deputy Chief Engineer - Mechanical will support the Chief Engineer for several aspects of the engineering and flawless program execution to include:
  • Ensure proper engineering discipline, rigor, review, reporting, and focus in our solutions and planning,
  • Hardware engineering,
  • Mechanical Engineering to support production and manufacturing,
  • Mechanical Engineering to support logistics, maintenance, and sustainment (LMS),
  • Mechanical Engineering resource and talent planning, and
  • Supporting our Customers with engineering solutions and processes that reduce cost and risk, and that enable agility, speed, and security
  • Development and mentoring of engineering staff to include providing career guidance and professional growth opportunities for high potential employees

Basic Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field from an ABET accredited school is required. Candidate should have 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in requirements definition, design, development and test of hardware systems
  • Experience in management of hardware design teams to include developing integrated master schedules, and planning required to execute small to large sized programs
  • A background in DoD programs is required
  • Candidates must have good organizational skills and attention to detail, and work well in a team environment
  • Experience with Creo Elements/Pro (formerly Pro/ENGINEER)
  • Knowledge of missile mechanical structural systems including cast, forged and
    machined parts
  • Experience with environmental testing of missile components and related test equipment
  • Experience with compatible materials, fasteners, coatings, processes and assembly methods
  • Knowledge of ASME drawing standards
  • Organizational skills to document designs
  • Knowledge of Technical Data Packages (TDP) development
  • Experience managing a team of engineers
  • Must have experience supporting business development through marketing and generating proposals
  • Technical leadership of weapon system and architecture development tasks
  • Must have a DOD Secret clearance and be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience and demonstrated skill in any of the following areas is also a plus:
  • Project or people management
  • Proposal writing or business development
  • Project estimating
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering processes
  • Test planning
  • CONOP development for assembly, integration and testing of hardware

The ideal candidate would have experience in weapons and/or missile system electronics/avionics/environmental testing.

Pay Range: Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00
