The Senior Chemist will manage the analytical laboratory at the Crisco facility and serve as the subject matter expert in chemistry and in a variety of analytical techniques used at the facility. Success is defined as Quality lab instrumentation is available and reliable for use during production hours and the laboratories are audit ready. This position provides the necessary leadership needed for sustained excellence of analytical measurement capabilities. The individual must possess a strong technical knowledge of analytical chemistry and good laboratory practices. The position requires well-developed leadership and influencing skills along with a continuous improvement mindset and self-initiative.
Responsible for ensuring Good Laboratory Practices including GMP are implemented, including:
Analytical method validation and verification and use of official/approved methods
Strong knowledge of Food or Oil chemistry

Responsible for ensuring Good Laboratory Practices including GMP are implemented, including:
Analytical method validation and verification and use of official/approved methods
- Training and qualification of personnel performing the tests
- Availability of reagents and reference materials
- Maintenance of laboratory equipment; service contracts in place
- Ensures calibration schedule for equipment is followed and calibration for all equipment is documented and easily accessible
- Ensures maintenance of equipment is recorded
- Follows good documentation practices
- Makes up-to-date SOPs available for the laboratory
- Monitors Analytical results
- Manage IQ OQ PQ for all instruments
- Leads initiatives to improve out of specification results
- Conducts effective root cause analysis and implements corrective and preventive actions
- Lead the development of analytical technical competence
- Assigns proficiency testing, tracks bench data, and communicates results to Plant Manager and Quality Manager in a timely manner
- Implements changes to lead improvements in methods and training based on proficiency testing scores
- Proficient at troubleshooting with laboratory equipment, implementing documents to assist others with troubleshooting and training to ensure a smooth and continuous workflow
- Develop methods and trouble-shooting skills.
- Monitor use of Analytical Job Aids and amend when necessary
- May be asked to participate in industry analytical organizations and trade shows to monitor developing technologies.
- Modify existing methods or develop new ones that improve accuracy, increase precision or reduce the cost of the critical measure.
- 3 to 5 years of experience required
Strong knowledge of Food or Oil chemistry
- Previous analytical experience required - 3+ years of experience with Gas Chromatography, Atomic Absorption Unit, ICP- OES
- Spectroscopy and Basic Wet Chemistry methods
- Experience developing or improving analytical methods
- Experience in oil chemistry is a plus
Education
- Bachelor's Degree of Science in Chemistry or related field, master's degree preferred.
- Good Laboratory Practices, Analytical Chemistry, GC, Atomic Absorption Unit, ICP - OES Spectroscopy, basic wet chemistry required
- Statistical Analysis/SPC preferred
- Strong leadership and self-initiative
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment; ability to work systematically and logically demonstrating sound decision-making abilities
- Analytical and Problem-Solving skills
- Continuous improvement mindset
- Ability to influence others to achieve goals
- Good Verbal and Written communication and influencing skills, along with the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to train and communicate with people of many levels of experience and knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft excel, PowerPoint, and Word
