Join ICF in support of the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) contract at the new Region 9 Laboratory in Corvallis, Oregon. ICF is looking for an Environmental Laboratory Chemist in support of the USEPA Region 9 Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) contract. ESAT provides analytical, quality assurance (QA), and technical support to USEPA programs such as such as Drinking Water, Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), and Superfund (CERCLA) programs requiring the identification, assessment, remediation, and regulation of environmental hazards. The team performs analysis on soil, water, air, waste, and tissue samples for chemical contaminants using USEPA-approved methods to support EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment through programs such as the Drinking Water programs, Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Superfund (CERCLA). The Environmental Chemist will apply their knowledge and work experience to primarily support the preparation and analysis of samples using inorganic chemistry methods with possible cross-training on various organic analyses. All team activities must comply with EPA methods for various media (air, water, soil, biota) and environmental programs as well as the NELAC standard (2016). Job duties include sample preparation (primarily acid digestion) and operation of ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and other instrumentation to determine metals and other inorganic contaminants. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as member of a team. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related. 4+ years of laboratory bench-level experience using EPA-approved methodologies. 2+ years of experience with ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy) or ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) Sample preparation experience using EPA methodologies such as acid digestion using SW846 methods Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills, and the ability to think critically. MUST BE ABLE TO PASS an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property. Preferred Qualifications: Sample preparation using SW846 methods for TCLP and in vitro bioaccessibility and experience with Cal WET. Recent “hands on” experience with the following instrumentation and associated sample preparation: CVAA (Cold Vapor Atomic Absorption), TDAA (Thermal Desorption Atomic Adsorption), IC (Ion Chromatography), TOC (Total Organic Carbon), FIA (Flow Injection Analysis). Experience in laboratories accredited for environmental analyses (e.g., TNI or NELAC, state programs). Experience working at Federal facilities. Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS’s), knowledge of Promium’s Element LIMS is a plus.
