Overview

The Senior Manager, US Commercial Paralegal will provide comprehensive paralegal support to our Commercial Legal team, primarily for US and global matters. This role will assist the commercial lawyers as they engage with key business partners in the areas of advertising & promotion, disease awareness, data & digital initiatives, data privacy, and commercial litigation.

This position will report to the Executive Legal Director, Global Rare & Commercial Innovation and will require you to work in a matrix setting of a fast-paced, rapidly growing organization. You will need to partner effectively with colleagues across the Commercial Legal Team and broader Legal Department. This includes working with lawyers in different time zones and outside the U.S. You will also need to collaborate successfully with various stakeholders such as the Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Ethics & Compliance teams as well as outside counsel.

The ideal candidate will have an awareness of healthcare laws as they relate to advertising & promotion, fraud & abuse, and data privacy. This role will have the potential to substantially impact the legal support for Alnylam's marketed products, privacy program, and data/digital activities.

This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides legal services in support of business objectives, assists lawyers with identifying and resolving routine and moderately complex to complex legal matters, and carries out assigned responsibilities, all with minimal supervision
  • Manages Alnylam's commercial legal playbooks and assists attorneys with the creation of documents and templates, assists with initial fact investigation, identifies and collects relevant documents and data sources, and engages with internal stakeholders and external counsel
  • Collects information and creates records of documents, including concerning pre-litigation and litigation matters (internal and external correspondence, court filings, etc.), summarizes concepts, and develops content for lawyers to support legal assessments and trainings for the business
  • Supports commercial lawyers in progressing global initiatives and processes by helping ensure consistency of guidance, stakeholder momentum, and effective change management
  • Ensures that legal resource licenses are kept up to date, keeps abreast of relevant legal and regulatory developments, and disseminates such updates to the lawyers
  • Performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts and the ability to independently identify problems, perform analysis, propose solutions to a lawyer, and draft and negotiate legal documents
  • Represents Commercial Legal as appropriate in internal forums, communicates the advice of the Commercial Legal team to business colleagues, and manages legal risks to the corporation
  • Manages critical Commercial Legal meetings, sets agendas, takes minutes, and tracks action items as well as summarizes and disseminates minutes from certain marketed program meetings
  • Tracks and organizes priorities, project milestones, program materials, and legal advice by setting up and maintaining repositories, processes, and frameworks
  • Engages with other legal colleagues as needed to support other key Commercial Legal responsibilities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required and relevant legal education (accredited paralegal certificate) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of corporate paralegal experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or related industry
  • Resourceful self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and excellent at developing and maintaining strong rapport with a range of stakeholders
  • Growth mindset with a positive attitude and willingness to pivot as needed to support business and legal teams
  • Keen attention to detail, solid judgment, strong organizational skills, and outstanding time management abilities
  • Excellent research, writing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
