Full Time: M-F 8:30am- 5pm

Participation in on call rotation

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Senior Citrix Engineer for our HIT department located at our corporate office in Skokie IL. This is a full-time position and is benefits eligible. Hours will be scheduled on normal business hours.

The Citrix Engineer's role is to monitor and operate the organization's Citrix environment, networks, and applications. This includes installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, and maintaining the environment. Responsible for planning, designing and coordinating the implementation and support of the Citrix products necessary for business operations.

The primary duty of the professional involves monitoring, maintaining, operating and troubleshooting daily remote access technologies. The professionals must be capable manage performance and rectify any errors that occur within the Citrix service. They should verify the applications for deployment via Citrix. The engineer is responsible for taking care of all the administration tools in the Citrix environment. They should have proficiency in ITIL and other IT operations frameworks. The professional should be able to provide all the necessary support for Citrix Infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with internal staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.

  • 24x7 On-Call rotation.
  • Experience in backward engineering to troubleshoot problems, excellent problem solving skills.
  • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
  • Responsible for operations of a company's internal data communications systems and provide technical support on NorthShore's enterprise network and computer systems to provide the highest degree of connectivity, performance and availability feasibly possible.
  • Plans, designs, and implements solutions for Citrix, Vmware and other Windows based networked systems, including configurations; supporting/troubleshooting problems; coordinating with vendors for installation of such items as Servers, Operating systems, application; project implementation; providing training and assisting with project writing.
  • Responsible for project planning, cost analysis and vendor comparisons.
  • Research and evaluate emerging network and communication technology.
  • Provide technical support on NorthShore's enterprise network and computer systems to provide the highest degree of connectivity, performance and availability feasibly possible.
  • Interact and communicate with differing levels of management including meetings, presentations, and authorizing detailed technical documentation.
  • Solid network administration skills
  • Experience with monitor and alerting systems
  • A strong understanding of Active Directory and identity management systems
  • Build new servers, including hardware install in data center and installing OS and software.
  • Strong PowerShell abilities
  • The ability to work flexible, independently as well as in a team.

Acquisition & Deployment
  • Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and
  • Operating systems. Including but not limited to Active Directory and domain controller configuration and maintenance.
  • Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
  • Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to resolve and troubleshoot system issues.

Operational Management
  • Manages clients or their own company Citrix system and its other technologies.
  • Checking and controlling the server and offering solutions to its problems.
  • Supporting and preserving the Virtual Desktop setup of the institution, which includes, the AppSense and XenDesktop, XenApp, and others.
  • Help in organization and management of the business applications.
  • Determining the increased cases received by the IT Helpdesk.
  • Improving and adjusting the Virtual Desktop system.
  • Design and implement platform security.
  • Taking part in upgrading and updating the system's applications, installing it with up-to-date descriptions.
  • Should strengthen the apps, the Windows server, and the principal operating system.
  • Providing technical assistance for all the servers, desktops, and services that apply business.
  • Taking full control and accountability for applying, implementing, maintaining, and examining the documentation of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
  • Executing helpdesk calls and classifying cases according to their priorities and accelerations.


What you will need:
  • Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software Systems, applications, and related products.
  • Microsoft Management products (MCSA certification a plus) including all of the System Center suite.
  • VMWare vcenter, Data Loss Prevention.
  • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management Best Practices.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • 15+ years' experience in the operations of a company's internal data communications systems.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field
  • Good communication & troubleshooting skills
  • Solid network administration skills
  • Specialized knowledge of the definition, design and implementation of Citrix, Vmware, and Network.
  • Experience with monitor and alerting systems
  • A strong understanding of Active Directory and identity management systems
  • Build new servers, including hardware install in data center and installing OS and software
  • Strong PowerShell abilities
  • The ability to work flexible, independently as well as in a team
  • The desire to grow yourself, your team and the company
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative and able to work independently or among teams with keen judgement, common sense and resourcefulness
  • Adapts and thrives in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Standard System Administrator tools and utilities (Wireshark, nmap, etc.)
  • Respond to escalated tickets and troubleshoot any reported problems
  • Document case actions during resolution process and log all interactions

  • Possesses a high level of critical thinking
  • Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information
  • MCSA, MCSE
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, perl, Python, etc.)
  • ITIL
