Lead, Email & Subscriber Growth

As our Lead, Email & Subscriber Growth you will be a central dot-connector across the company, working directly on one of our core company objectives: increasing subscriber growth, both by brand and across the network.

You will come to deeply understand our brand audiences, our audience records, how we segment and schedule campaigns, and other moving pieces that come together to produce our inbox-first publishing. As you understand the interconnected pieces, teams, and tactics that collectively lead to subscriber growth, you will shift into a more directive role, prioritizing and directing new projects, upgrades, and initiatives that will lead to growth. Over time, as you gain success in this function, you will be in position to elevate to a broader leadership role in the company, as this function touches so many parts of the business.

You will also play a key role in developing our paid reader acquisition workflows and budgets, as this is an area we have not yet invested in.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
    • Form close working relationships with several teams at Optimism: Business Intelligence, Product, Brand & Editorial, Campaigns, and Performance Content
    • Develop a deep understanding of how we use email segmentation and cross pollination of our brand audiences to drive growth in our brands
    • Develop, test, and implement strategies and tactics to drive net-new subscriber growth at a brand level and across our networK
    • Lead various cross-functional team workflows that you develop and prioritize, to accomplish subscriber growth
    • Lead pilots for paid audience acquisition, to find scalable channels that we can invest in


QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience working with "inbox-first" products, publications, newsletters, or other offerings
    • Understanding of the monetization landscape for email newsletters and web publishing, i.e. familiarity with the differences between programmatic advertising, performance/affiliate advertising, commerce, and sponsorships
    • Ability to think rigorously using data, including the ability to ask the right questions to inform data-gathering
    • Highly collaborative approach to working, sense-making, and accomplishing progress
    • Instinctual learner, intellectually curious
    • Interest in media and publishing


You will be provided a pay rate that is in line with your skills and experience as they relate to the requirements of the job. While this position may be remote, we prefer candidates who can work in Orange County, Denver, or New York City. While this position is listed as remote or hybrid, only candidates who are current U.S. Citizens will be considered.
