This position may require an export license from the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. Issuance of any required license is a prerequisite for this position.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to work in an international, dynamic, product development environment to develop rotor components for industrial gas turbine engines at the Siemens Energy facility in Charlotte, NC. The scope of work includes participation in the following major component development phases; Conceptual development, prototype development, manufacturing, & testing, basic design & analysis, manufacturing development & qualification, support on-site and off-site manufacturing deviations and decision making, engine testing & validation.
How You'll Make an Impact
You will be supporting the design of new and/or upgraded rotor/casing components and compressor blades and vanes. You will make a direct impact by supporting the compressor module working as a design engineer, to meet the needs of the marketplace. These needs include new hardware design to support sophisticated engine platforms, design changes for performance enhancements, manufacturing improvements, service improvements, and overall life cycle optimization. You are a motivated individual who looks to address responsibility, ownership, and dynamic challenges and excitement associated with maintaining and improving designs. More specific responsibilities would include the following:
You will be the primary manufacturing to RnD interface for all Large Gas Turbine (LGT) rotors coming in for service in our facility, as well as for new rotor production. Your knowledge and expertise of manufacturing processes, along with an in-depth understanding and ability to create and interpret design engineering drawings, is key to your success as a subject-matter guide.
Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.

More specific responsibilities would include the following:
You will be the primary manufacturing to RnD interface for all Large Gas Turbine (LGT) rotors coming in for service in our facility, as well as for new rotor production. Your knowledge and expertise of manufacturing processes, along with an in-depth understanding and ability to create and interpret design engineering drawings, is key to your success as a subject-matter guide.
- Hands-on interaction with shop floor personnel and equipment while you challenge the status quo with well researched ideas that withstand the test of technical debate. Bringing together shop feedback to improve the designs using CAD software and development (drawings, BOM) for rotor and casing components in gas turbines
- Performing fundamental structural analysis mainly using hand calculations and first principles.
- You will aid others, or perform structural analysis using advance computer FEA techniques while helping with budget planning, cost controlling, and planning of time schedule
- Provide documentation in the form of technical reports, specifications, and design review packages
- Coordination of these tasks in close collaboration with internal or external suppliers / contractors and in partnership with component engineering as well as manufacturing and field service
- Have an ability to participate in a team environment and provide influence earlier in the design phase that will enable and improve the ability to meet compressor module design targets.
- High motivation and willingness to take ownership of the end product.
- Significant mechanical design, some basic analysis, and familiarity of building/checking basic engineering prints of rotating industrial machinery or similar applications.
- BSME or equivalent experience, with a focus in machine design or a related field
- Ability and experience to perform drawing stack-ups and outstanding communication skills and enjoy working with colleagues from different organizations and cultures.
- 5-8 years of product development experience for engineered mechanical products. Willing to travel. (approximately 10%)
- Gas turbine rotor and/or compressor module experience, primarily with experience in mechanical and structural design
- Advanced knowledge in Nx, Simcenter and ANSYS FEA calculations and familiarity with other Cad packages like ProEngineer
- Excellent communication (both oral and written) and strong organizational skills
- Familiar with risk assessments like FMEA
- Is willed to take action with a focus towards achieving results
- Knowledge in configuration control using SAP-OneP, Teamcenter
