Rotor Mechanical Integrity Engineer

A Snapshot of your Day:This position provides an excellent opportunity to work in an international, dynamic, product development environment to develop rotor components for industrial gas turbine engines at the Siemens Energy facility in Charlotte, NC. The scope of work includes participation in the following major component development phases; (i) conceptual development (ii) prototype development, manufacturing & testing (iii) basic design & analysis (iv) detailed design & analysis (v) manufacturing development & qualification (vi) engine testing & validation.
This position may require an export license from the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. Issuance of any required license is a prerequisite for this position.How You'll Make an ImpactYou will be supporting to the structural and mechanical integrity analysis of new and/or upgraded rotor components and compressor blades and vanes. You will make a direct impact by supporting the compressor module working as an engineer and/or project lead, to meet the needs of the marketplace. These needs include new hardware design to support sophisticated engine platforms, performance enhancements, manufacturing improvements, service enhancements, and overall life cycle optimization. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual who looks to take on the responsibility, ownership, and sophisticated challenges and anticipation associated with first time design. These needs include new hardware design to support sophisticated engine platforms, performance enhancements, manufacturing improvements, service enhancements, and overall life cycle optimization. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual who looks to take on the responsibility, ownership, and sophisticated challenges and anticipation associated with first time design. More specific responsibilities would include the following:
- Performing structural analysis using both hand calculations and advance computer FEA techniques
- Budget planning, cost controlling and planning of time schedule and development (drawings, BOM) for rotor components in gas turbines while providing documentation in the form of technical reports, specifications, and design review packages
- Coordination of these tasks in close collaboration with external suppliers / contractors and in partnership with component engineering and manufacturing field service
- Influence earlier in the design phase that will enable and improve the ability to meet compressor module design targets.
- High motivation to be responsible for the end product. With a BSME with a focus in machine design or related field
- Mechanical design and analysis with rotating industrial machinery or similar applications. With outstanding communication skills and enjoy working with colleagues from different organizations.
- Significant mechanical design/analysis experience with components for turbo-machinery applications or similar. Bringing 5-8 years of product development experience for engineered mechanical products. Willing to travel. (approximately 10%)
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
- Gas turbine rotor and/or compressor experience
- Primary experience in mechanical and structural design
- Advanced knowledge in Nx, Simcenter and ANSYS FEA calculations with excellent communication (both oral and written) and strong social skills
- Familiar with risk assessments like FMEA and is willing to take action towards achieving results
- Knowledge in SAP OneP, Teamcenter
