Job Title: Title Examiner

Pay Range: $24-$35 per hour (DOE)

Primary Purpose:
To locate and provide information about:

  • Owners of real property
  • Liens filed against real property
  • Legal descriptions for real property assessed under delinquent tax accounts

Essential Functions:
The Title Examiner will be responsible for the following tasks, duties, and responsibilities:
  1. Obtain Title Examination Materials:
    Retrieve title examination materials from title plants and/or county records.
  2. Review Documents:
    Examine information set out in documents located during searches of records.
  3. Assemble Chain-of-Title:
    Compile a chain-of-title that includes deeds, probate or heirship materials, liens that encumber search properties, and involuntary liens against owners.
  4. Identify Property Owners and Lien Holders:
    Determine property owners and lien holders of mortgage and involuntary liens.
  5. Furnish Legal Descriptions:
    Provide a legal description identifying property with reasonable certainty.
  6. Create Run Sheets:
    Develop a run sheet that contains a legal description for land assessed under a delinquent account, including names of property owners and all lien holders.
  7. Save Examination Materials:
    Save run sheets and digital copies of examination materials.
  8. Other Duties:
    Perform all other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Title Examiner will work in the following conditions:
  1. Office Environment:
    Work takes place inside an office space located within the Houston PRC work area.
  2. Desk Work:
    Being seated at a desk for extended periods.
  3. Manual Searches and Data Entry:
    Manually search for land information online or through a title plant, and enter applicable details into a word processing document or a database using an assigned computer and keyboard. Some work may be undertaken in a county clerks office, which requires traveling to a county courthouse. Courthouse work also involves reviewing computer-based records on a monitor and searching through records contained in large books, which requires lifting and replacing the large books.
