Research Lab Tech Intermediate Apply Now Job Summary Department of Internal Medicine Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan is hiring a Research Laboratory Technician Interim. The laboratory investigates the pathobiology of a variety of lung diseases, including interstitial lung diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and acute lung injury, using basic and translational science approaches. The candidate will be responsible for performing rodent colony daily operations, such as setting up breeding pairs, weaning, monitoring, and determining animal usage, updating online colony records. Additionally, they will perform routine laboratory experimental procedures in one or more areas of work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and/or higher-level research staff. There are numerous opportunities to present at journal clubs and lab meetings, as well as to develop an independent line of research. Excellent medical, dental and vision coverage effective on your very first day 2:1 Match on retirement savings Responsibilities* Assist in research by gathering data, administering tests, recording observations and measurements, and setting up and operating laboratory equipment. Routine cell culture maintenance: feeding and passaging of adherent cells, freezing and recovering cell lines, and keeping good record for cell experiments. Develop and maintain primary cell cultures or organoids from patients and mouse models. Perform protein, RNA and gDNA extraction from cells and tissue, as well as western blotting and qPCR. In vivo work: basic mouse handling, ear tagging of mice, animal necropsy and tissue/organ collection; maintain genetically modified mouse colony and perform genotyping; assist in performing surgery on mice. Histology preparation: fixed tissue processing, paraffin embedding, microtome sectioning, staining, and immunostaining. Required Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field. 1-3 years of experience Basic cell and molecular biology background. Excellent documentation skills for research results. Ability and willingness to learn and implement novel experimental techniques.
