Job Summary & Responsibilities

Primary Purpose of the Role:

The purpose of this position is to support customers in the application of Onto Innovation's automatic optical inspection (AOI) 2D&3D products. This requires traveling to customer sites to troubleshoot process integration-related issues, as well as the evaluation of product performance and implementation of new features. The position also supports the customers by training them on system operation and how to get the most benefit from IBU (Inspection Business Unit) products. The Applications Engineer will also support the account team by providing technical direction and conducting aggressive activities to maximize business opportunities for product sales and services.

Responsibilities:

1. Deliver technical presentation and perform system demonstration/sample inspection/measurement for customers.

2. Provide both on-site and remote applications support to customers.

3. Assist customers in solving problems related to the application of inspection tools to their manufacturing processes.

4. Supports the Applications Lab with input to customer Test Plans and provides execution support when required.

5. Interface with external customers and internal departments to best determine equipment specifications.

6. Work together with FSE to carry out the final acceptance for new tool installation as well as customer training

7. Report on results of experiments, tests/studies, and provide preliminary interpretation.

8. Aid in the design and development of new equipment or redesign of existing systems to meet customer requirements.

9. Apply good problem-solving skills to solve customer issues and applications.

10. Establish a good relationship with the customer and develop commercial awareness in order to feedback on the business opportunity to the salesman.

11. Collect & feedback on marketing information to reinforce Onto's competitive position.

12. Up to 30% of domestic and overseas travel for cross regions support will be required.

Qualifications

1. Master/Ph.D. degree preferred, will consider experience versus degree

2. Ideally 3+ years of hands-on experience with automatic optical inspection (AOI) products.

3. Good written and verbal communication skills essential

4. Ability to work with limited direction and take initiative to solve problems

5. Can function in a fast-paced environment
