LOCATION - Hybrid: Orlando, FL

ABOUT THE JOB
Tepa Companies is actively seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to serve as Mechanical Engineering Department Head and participates in project design from the conceptual phase to the construction phase. The LME leads a team of mid-level and entry level mechanical engineers and provides mentorship, guidance, and QA/QC reviews of design. The Lead Mechanical Engineer collaborates with various project teams to develop, refine, and update design criteria, design direction, and is responsible for generation of engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for all mechanical engineering projects executed by the company.
- Hires, leads, supervises, and mentors senior-level, mid-level, and entry-level mechanical engineers.
- Responsible for maintaining and improving internal design processes.
- Provides "Responsible Charge" and serves as the primary engineer of record (EOR) on projects.
- Facilitates and determines the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables.
- Performs QA/QC review of design and construction documents such as drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment selections, code application, request for information (RFI's), and submittal reviews.
- Reviews code related items with engineers to ensure compliance.
- Develops schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
- Supervises simulation and computer modeling of building HVAC and building energy.
- Develops and reviews basis of design (BOD) narratives and reports.
- Understands chilled water, condenser water, heating hot water, variable and constant flow, pumping, air handling, and direct-expansion systems.
- Understands and selects plumbing systems.
- Understands fire protection systems.
- Understands building controls systems and application of sequence of operations, controls diagrams, and controls points list.
- Performs life-cycle analyses and energy/cost analyses of mechanical and plumbing systems .
- Performs design and construction cost estimating and evaluates contractor pricing and estimates.
- Provides support during construction both in the office and the field, to include site visits, performing construction submittal reviews, and addressing requests for information (RFIs)
- Manages and develops work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours and provides guidance to engineers on management of their task hours.
- Provides technical review of engineering proposals and develops resource allocations.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, or similar from Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university.
- 20+ years of experience
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Active NCEES record
- Project experience with federal, state, local government, and private clients
- Experience leading a team of senior-level, mid-level, and entry-level mechanical engineers preferred, not required.
- Capability of supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Advanced understanding of design best practices
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite programs (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Proficiency in load and energy modeling
- Understanding of AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM preferred, not required.
- Existing local area industry and vendor relationships preferred, not required
