Job Description

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) works in the Human Resources Consulting and Program Delivery Team and supports the delivery of Seaspan's strategic talent management strategy. The HRBP supports assigned business units to provide expertise and advice on human resources programs. Although based in North Vancouver, the HRBP will collaborate and work closely with the wider Human Resources Consulting and Program Delivery Team on strategic projects across all of Seaspan's business units.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do
  • Responsible for case management of complex organizational issues, including Respect in the Workplace investigations and performance management matters.
  • Acts as a single point of contact for managers and salaried and union employees in assigned business units to deliver end-to-end Human Resources programs.
  • Collaborates with HR Centers of Excellence and HR Business Partners team to build and implement standard methodologies that drive employee attraction, retention and development.
  • Proactively supports managers with the interpretation and application of Collective Agreements, HR policies and programs, including performance management, career development, workforce planning, compensation, investigations and exits.
  • Drives workforce planning and forecasting at the business unit level to meet evolving strategic objectives.
  • Promotes a culture of inclusion with a focus on employee engagement, diversity, and inclusion programs.
  • Continuously drives improvements in processes and policies through external market trends, insight and internal standard methodology.
  • Support with Absence Management for Unionized workforce.
  • Assist with Trades Onboarding.

What you'll bring
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of generalist HR experience, with at least 2 years of experience as an HR Business Partner in a complex unionized environment.
  • CPHR, SHRM or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships within the HR Department and at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively address often complex and sensitive employee matters.
  • Superior Conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable to fast-paced and quickly changing business units and work priorities.
  • Solid attention to detail when reviewing HR analytics, employment offers, and program materials and processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of federal and provincial legislation including the Canadian Human Rights Act, Employment Equity Act, Canada Labour Code, and the Employment Standards Act.
  • Exceptional Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills required.

The estimated salary for this position is $94,000 - $112,800. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
